  • I have not had a 100% grenache from the rhone in some time, and this was a nice example. At first I was missing the spice pepper notes that you get with most southern rhone blends (from Syrah and Mourvedre) but this is a really nice wine that is kind of unique for the appellation. Quite fruit forward with being jammy, with just the right amount of earthy granite notes to make it a multi dimensional wine.

  • Give this a bit of time in a decanter or in the glass and it will reward. Not a wine to set your life alight, but then why should it? It is a bottle of wine. Restrained wine making with bright, brisk red fruits undercut with a smooth tannic structure that gives a well rounded balance. A firm finish with a tarte follow-through - enough regional character to lift this above anything new-world orientated in the same price range. I found it quite decent value for £15/$23. No excess heat, no pointed or aggressive tannins, just decent southern Rhone wine that works very well with food.
