I really enjoyed this wine tonight. I drank it by myself over a long night while my wife drank a Cali Pinot Noir. Slightly browned but very much in tact. A exceptionally beautiful nose that reached beyond the glass, fresh strawberries and well integrated minerals. This wine was light but complex and balanced. It only got better as the night went on and it never faded over 6+ hours.

From 75cl, v. good cork, opened but not decanted 30 minutes, a teaspoon of fine sediment in bottle, wine continued to improve until final drop at 2 hours. Alarmingly orange at the rim for 11 years after the vintage; the CT drinking window (=ASAP) is probably correct. "Barnyard" cowsh*t smell (in a relatively civilised form) heralds Côtes de Nuits; iodine tincture, ripish dark red fruit, wafting dry crumbly soil, medium-bodied rustic texture and rough tannins would have led me blind to guess Nuits St Georges, but OK, Gevrey is near enough if you don't think Bachelet, Mortet etc. Not exactly a charmer, this rough, raw-leather good ol' boy is a challenge for me, but if you like it, you'll like it... Pleased to have met you, but let's agree to disagree? 90P

Rich pinot fruit on nose and palate right after pulling the cork. Ripe. Super length, showing a little cranberry. This is drinking. Might be this year's Thanksgiving wine. 90-91.

Medley of sweet ripe black fruit. Some barnyard on the nose. Fruit forward palate with an acidic lift. Quite dense. Broad shouldered. Coming around now and likely to be drinking well for another 2-3 years.

Not quite there yet, but very promising already. Barnyard in the nose but ripe raspberries and Kirsch on the palate. Good already but will improve. I would thinh that it will all harmonize in +/- 2 years.

Peppery, spicy red fruits. Bacon. Forest floor. Secondary notes. Soft fleshy palate. Savory. Spicy fruit, perhaps more black fruit than red. Nice length.

Funky, dark cherry, truffle, earth, savoury, bone dry, nice oak. Excellent village and very Gevrey. I like the dryness but see others wanting more fruit sweetness.

Enjoyable pinot that featured sour cherry notes, spice and a hint of pinot funk from the first pour. As the wine opened up, the fruit evolved into a dark red and black berry mix. Oak was noticeable but not overwhelmingly so. Overall, a nice drink even if still a bit on the too young side.

Domaine de la Vougeraie tasting (Watson's, Hong Kong): Spends 16 months in 45% new oak. This is planted at a density of 36,000 per hectare (the normal high-density is 10,000 per hectare). They harvest this plot last as it ripens slowly. Apparently we need to wait 10 years for this one. Light clear ruby. Very interesting nose - spicy and complex with forest floor and pepper notes. Fine tannins and well integrated.

A little reduced on the nose. Good mix of red and black fruits but a little oaky for me. Good gevrey typicity however and well made. Perhaps a little bit overworked but very nice if you like the style.

Too young, predominantly oak but with a good future.
