2009 Domaine Patrice Rion NSG 1er Cru Clos des Argillières. Rubinrød med vandig kant. Tiltalende duft av modne røde bær med innslag av noe mørkere frukt. Jordbær, bjørnebær, krudder, anis. Pent anslag, men blir straks trå og streng i munn. Rustikk i stilen. Fremdeles ganske fremtredende tanniner, mistenker litt hard toast av fat. Noe bitterhet i avslutning. Bra lengde. Går bedre med mat. Trenger sannsynligvis mer tid på langs for å komme rundt..om den noen gang gjør det. 88p

This is Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion; 13% alcohol. Superb long dense yet supple cork with hardly any wine penetration. Light to medium colour, bright and limpid. Aromatic nose of red cherries and red berries; some oak initially, but it does not intrude. The mouth has very good intensity without feeling concentrated; a model of Burgundian balance in that respect. Red berries again and fine acidity. Drinks fine now but not quite mature yet. Far removed from the plummy style of Nuits St G and none the worse for it. Would buy again if prices became more palatable.

Colour showing mid age. Practically no deposit which surprised me. It has been stored fairly cool which usually promotes dropping of solids. Aroma of ripe vintage, some richness, trace of alcohol, very savoury and attractive. At first, seemed a bit over ripe, but with some air became very tasty. Still some tannin and mouth feel of a ripe vintage, a touch of alcohol but consistent with the flavour, not sticking out as it does with most Rhones these days. Really enjoyable, if you like a wine with texture, which I do. Maybe near its peak, but a few years will not change it much.
second thoughts: alcohol not prominent, improving in the glass.

Fine Vines Burgundy Tasting (Vin Chicago - Highland Park IL): Tasting, brief note. Ripe red cherry and plum along with background savory spice. Good textures and good+ balance with some sneaky structure helping with backbone and length. Good now through an other decade+.

13% alcohol (I suspect a bit more). Good dense cork with no wine penetration. Fine light ruby colour with some fading at the edge of the rim. Fine aromatic elegant nose of cherries. The mouth follows suit with vivid fruit, good grip and excellent balance. My only complaint is that the alcohol protrudes a (tiny) bit. Nuits St.G. may not be the most glamorous "finage", probably because of so many awkwardly broad offerings by négociants, but when it is done as well as here, it is fully convincing. This can age for another ten years without problem. A repeat purchase in principle, but what of current prices?

13% alcohol (you need to look hard to find this). Good long dense cork with barely any wine penetration. The colour is light with substantial thinning out at the edge. The nose has good intensity with cherry aromas. The mouth is also lively and fruity (cherries and red berries), with a good mouthfeel; good grip too. An elegant style of Nuits St G which I might have mistaken for a Volnay, and this is not meant as a criticism. This was reasonably priced when I acquired it, but I doubt if it still is. Would buy again in the unlikely event that the producer retained sane prices.

Rite of Spring at Chevalier Wines (Chicago, IL): Another wine where the nose is much, much better than the palate. At first, there's a lot of lovely red fruit, and an intriguing touch of earth as well, but the palate is so underwhelming compared to that lovely nose. In fact, there's a pretty big blank space where you'd expect the fruit to show up. What happened here?

Smaking hos Domaine Michèle et Patrice Rion: Bred, blåfruktbasert nese. Tett, og fyldig frukt. Tyngre enn 2010. Tørr oppsummering. Tette tanniner. Ettersmak med toner av smør.

Chevalier Fine Wines Tasting, Featuring Fine Vines Selections (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Charming combination of red fruit, spice and floral start. Similar flavors, but less forthcoming, seemingly slightly shut down for now. Moderate length and density for its level.

Big, but not gutsy, with allot of black and blue fruits. Some cold soak in here? Big pinot here.
