  • Have a few bottles of this lurking around in storage. Decided to try. Spicy but clearly a bit past prime. Structure has faded and although fruit still present it is a bit flat. Would not say flabby but does not stand up well to food. Interesting characteristics have developed (e.g., rubber). Not unpleasant but certainly interesting.

  • Nose of spices - cinnamon and black & white pepper. Light/medium bodied. Nice fruit - elegant and delicate, with nice spiciness and some tang. Somewhat simple, but fairly nice.

  • Drink now, fading quick. The wine is light and pleasant in the mouth with a nice mouthfeel. Flavors of mixed spices, and earth along with a cranberry/ cherry backbone. Not a bad wine but I'm glad don't have any others. 3/5

  • Nose of red fruit, a touch of spice. Red raspberry on the palate. Some tannins, nice acids, good red fruit - cherries and raspberries. Just a touch of a smokiness. Rather simple but quite nice.

  • Pleasant muddled berry (bits of raspberry and pie cherries) and herb nose that gave way to a Luden's cough drop cherry aroma with a couple hours of air time. Not a particularly weighty mouthfeel, though supported with red berry and herbaceous flavors (most notably sage about midway through) and a good, moderately long and somewhat tannic finish. A little oxidation brings out the cherry notes both in the nose and on the palate.

  • For about the first hour was sensational. Layered, fruity, underneath an herbal, mothball thing. Fell apart just a little bit, but an excellent QPR ($14) wine that I wish I had another bottle or two of.

  • I agree with the tasting notes that others have posted on CellarTracker. Really nice wine at this price point ($14, I think.) Slight barnyard nose, a little too much vanilla on the palate at first, but that went away. Nicely balanced with a little acid, decent tannins, and just enough fruit to make up the difference. Herbs, in a good way, from the sage/mint family. Maybe some mothballs, too. But nice fresh fruit, too.

  • Deep ruby purple color. Clean nose with anise, mint a bit of earth. Under it all I catch a faint wiff of bacon fat and deep berry aromas, seems a bit wound up. Medium weight in the mouth at first with a racy acidity and a tannic presence on the finish. Rich flavors of earth, anise, blackberries though it seems a bit too tight and might benefit from some more time open...Even within a half hour, begins to show more fruit on the palate with a light pepper light quality on the tail end. Fun wine and I'm sure it would be nice with some lamb or wild game.

  • I had been considering buying some of the '01 Cepa Viejas, but I decided to check out a lower level bottling first. This was very good for the price. Loads of cherry fruit, with some smoke and peppery flavors in there as well. Good balance with a medium length finish. Not complex, but a very interesting wine that was a pleasure to drink. This encourages me to buy a couple bottles of the Cepas Viejas.

  • A little mint or sage on the nose. Smells astringent. Medium mouthfeel, taste isn't astringent.
