Decanted 90 mins. ahead. Deep ruby color. Earthy spices lead on the nose, a promising start. Blackberries, plums, and raisins enter later, along with cola and vanilla notes. On the palate this wine is toward the warmer end of the spectrum, with soft-ish structure and a bit of cooked character in a pretty full-bodied package. Finishes nicely with orange peel notes and light tannins. The wine strives for opulence, but it achieves richness, another way of saying that acid levels seem a bit low. Still, there is a lot going on here, and that is a very good thing. An interesting drink with good QPR.

Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Medium ruby color, not inky. Nice nose of plums, currants, smoke, mushrooms. Well-structured on the palate, with good acidity. I would call it an Amador Structure, meaning that it's not as full-bodied as a Lodi model Zin. It has a certain fragility, probably from old vines at higher elevations, that is very appealing. Alc. 15.1% but wears it well. Some licorice notes kick in on the flavors. This is NOT a fruit bomb; rather the flavors are more earth-driven, with spice and mushroom notes. Finishes with moderately strong but velvety tannins, a bit of heat. This is a very nice bottle, a good example of the type. Lay it down? Not necessarily. The structure is not mouth-filling enough to reward patience, and it's really good now.
