  • Nowhere near the wine that the '97 Clos Vougeot was. Actually it starts out very promising with a pungent barnyard funk, seriously enticing old-school Burgundy aroma. But the palate is shrill with the acidity almost completely unintegrated and spritzy. The fruit is still deep and lush, and eventually the breadth that connotes grand cru battles its way out, so maybe its better days are still ahead. For now, though, this is like trying to catch a channel with really bad reception.
