  • I put down a mixed case of Carmenere a few year ago just to see how they age. This was the first I've had since. Deep, dark color with a thin clear rim. Nose of savory herbs, licorice and black fruit. Viscous on entry with firm flavors of black currant, roasted spice. Quite full bodied and a bit warm, there is a firm backbone of tannins. The flavors are long and fresh. An impressive example. Drink now to 2020.

  • Deep ruby color with some purple hue. The nose is a bit tight after half hour of decanting and shows licorice and meat. The palate has a nice attack and is well balanced showing black cherry, licorice, black pepper, graphite, forest floor, some vegetal notes, and a hint of chocolate. A very good backbone with low acidity and low/medium tannins. The medium length finish is smooth and well rounded. Very good over all; ready to drink now with few more years of longevity.

  • Very solid Carmenere from a reliable producer. Decent legs, long finish, well-paired with grilled steak. I sought out the 2008 as the 2007 was our best wine tasted in 2010. The 2008 enjoyed this year is the second of two bottles consumed 12 months apart; both bottles were equally good. I will seek out future vintages and buy again. Paid about $20 and worth the money. Only problem is the Carmenere is one of the more difficult Montes Alpha varietals to find. Worth the search.

  • Consistent! A crowd pleaser with very good character, fullness, and structure. Ink, graphite, generous fruit, and good oak treatment. Very nice.

  • Drank this next to two other very good wines of the same vintage, Celler Malondro Montsant Besllum and Tenuta Curezza Nerosso Salento. This wine had the best and richest bouquet by far. It also had the most overall charm, and possibly the most exciting taste profile. It's main let down came on the finish, which while still good, did not hold up to the finish of the other two wines, and is also slightly bitter. For affordable drinking pleasure, however, it's a stunner!

  • Had this at a blind tasting and out of 20 wines it was easily the most memorable for its fascinating rosemary/pine/camphor and dark fruit nose. Very fruit-forward with dark cherries and plums with more earthy notes and a nice acidity chiming in on the mid-palate. Good tannic structure and a long finish.

  • Consistent with notes from 4/14. Noticed a little salinity this time. There's just too much all round goodness to rate this lower than 91.

  • Hard not to like this. Upon opening the boquet carries lovely inky, blueberry, tannin scents accompanied by rosemary and thyme. Very dark purple with even bluish hues in the glass. On the palate the inky, in a very good way, with very good structure and kicking tannins. A complex wine too especially for the price point. Behind these nice qualities comes the taste of Chile, herbs and spices that compliment red meats. The wine has several years of life ahead. Excellent Value!

  • Wines to Pair with Chocolate (Farpointe Cellar): Bouquet garni and cigar on the nose, with background notes of blueberry and crushed rock. It ended with some wet dirt. Blueberry and minerals on the palate, with spice and earth on the mid-palate, and good tobacco finish.

  • (14.5%) 90% Carmenere, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon – Nice deep purple fruits, floral notes and spice on the nose. On the palate a superb structure is readily apparent on entry to the palate and lasts throughout. Warm, plush blueberry and plum flavors greet you on the palate. This one is a fruit forward but balanced offering as some acidity emerges before creamy barrel spices take over and lead to a smooth, effortless finish with black pepper and gentle tannins that lingers nicely. Certainly not your typical Carmenere (lacking the green pepper and smoky components I am so used to) but an enjoyable wine to say the least. Drinking very well right now and will certainly last for quite a few more years should you have the patience.
