Hard to find a distinguishing characteristic of Carignane, but this one has a nice vinous character flavored with American oak. Holding up well. Tasted twice.

An excellent example of a well-aged Carignane. Brambly fruit, forest floor, beautiful blackberry. Tannins are soft and well integrated. This is a pleasure to drink.

Deep almost inky purple violet color with enticing brambly and earthy black and red berry, and floral aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, with a very smooth texture and well-behaved tannins with blackberry, red currant, baked raspberry, fig and vanilla flavors, and a lengthy finish 14.1% alcohol 100% Old Vine Carignane

It smells and drinks like blackberry, cranberry, soy sauce, tobacco, molasses, raspberry, honey, tea and dust. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are fast. There is no sediment in the bottle.

Considerably more mature than when I tasted a year ago. Aromas of wet earth and mushrooms with some berry jam. Rich and plummy with a soft velvety texture, mature tannin and moderate acidity. Meaty notes. Some spice and minerals in the background. Nicely complex and fully mature. Good food wine. Drink now.

Outstanding... Slightly funky, piney, verrry smooth palate. Great vanilla and syrupy raspberry aromas, very complex and evolves a lot in the glass. Amazing fruit, very memorable. Wouldn't wait too much longer for this cracker, it's ready to roll.

With grilled porterhouse steaks and corn on the cob. Medium crimson, clear, no bricking. Bright fruit (raspberry, hint of cherry). Jane gets alcohol on the nose - I don't. Dry, some nice acid, a touch of black pepper and some baking spice (almost reminiscent of anise). Very nice wine.

With 4 cheese tortellini and homemade carbonera sauce. Almost sparkling purple, lively look. Berries on the nose(red - raspberry/strawberry), mixed with some exotic spices (allspice, clove?). Palate smooth and soft, starting with the plum and moving to the berry. Good, long finish.

Opened as part of a Buchignani vertical tasting. Much brighter acidity than the Zin from the same vineyard. Bright spiced raspberry pie fruit, a bit of baking spice on the nose, hints of herbal tea, & violets. Flavors of baked bread, herbs & tea. One of my favorite Ridge Carignan bottlings to date.

Medium-dark red color. Limited transparency. Sweet aromas of cherry, plum, violets, and a hint of vanilla. Palate is well integrated and provides cherry, plum, and blackberry with some blueberry too on a medium finish. I could envision novices ascribing the descriptor "smooth" to this one. Tasty. Drink.

Very dark. Light nose of black berries. Rich, viscous. Alcohol is noticeable because there isnt much else in this dull wine.... a little earthiness and oak. Pass.

Tasted during private tour/reserve tasting at Ridge. Medium color. Light smoke, fresh rose pedals on nose. Ripe, red wild berry. High, luscious acidity. Drinking nice and should improve with a few more years of cellar time.

Rich but very transient vanilla aroma which quickly evolves to black fruit compote. Fresh blackberry flavors quickly develop complexity with tartness, woody notes and moderate tannins appearing over a short amount of time. Drink now or hold for the short-medium term.

This 100% carignane had beautiful aromas of bright raspberry and cherry fruit along with slight pine needles. Also a little sweetness like blueberry syrup. The flavors were the same and had a decently long finish. The prominent acidity provided a tart fruit (not pepper) spiciness that coated the whole palate. Tannin structure was very mild, so this is excellent now and most likely for the next four to five years.

An interesting wine with a taste unique to this grape. A bit hard to describe but a bit of raisin or menthol with red fruit. Nice change of pace.
