  • Richly textured, velvety dark fruit with enough acidity to follow it through. Drinking beautifully now, and should for another year or two. Rock solid producer across the spectrum of their lineup.

  • The nose smells of dark fruits with hints of coffee and chocolate. Smells like a big wine. Not overly heavy on the palate, I agree on previous notes that the Syrah heavily influences the palate, showing good ripe fruit and some peppery, earthy flavors. Nice length through the finish, the acid and tannins meet the intensity of the flavors well and show good integration. I can't fault anything about this wine, it smells and tastes really nice. The fruit is still ripe and fresh in this and the structure is all there so I would honestly be interested to see this age a bit longer, although it is drinking nicely already.

  • This is an interesting contrast to the Linne Calodo Slacker we drank last night. Paso wine vs. Washington, this one has more Syrah and Mourvedre and less Grenache. This is also a 2009 vintage not a 10. You can taste the additional Syrah, there is a little more acid in this bottle. This has wonderful fruit, a hint of dark cherry mixed in with a complex mixture of dark fruit, spice and earth and a long flavorful finish. This isn't quite as smooth as The Slacker, and doesn't have as amusing a name, but holds its own as a wonderfully flavorful wine.

  • A very nice southern Rhône tribute wine. Readily identifiable as a WA Syrah blend however, very fruit forward. Agreeable nose, Concentrated and sturdy palate, good acid, modest tannins. Without notable depth.

  • Portland CellarTracker offline (Sauvage et Fausse Piste Winery, Portland, Oregon): Starts off with warm exotic spices of cardamom, toasted coriander seed and five spice. Continues with plums, rehydrated cherries, molasses, light sage and primrose incense. Raspberry, peppered cherry and dark chocolate glide on the sanguine palate. A power driven and poised wine; with velvet qualities and a bit of brightness on the continuing finish.

  • This is my favorite of the Mackey wines. Tasted Fall Release 2011, love this so much we visited them twice during the weekend. A lovely CdP styled blend of 77% syrah, 13% grenache and 10% mourvedre, and the fruit is sourced from Les Collines, Bacchus and Minick Vineyards, respectively. 18 months in 35% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers, Billo knows his oak). 14.9% abv-but feels like 14%. It offers brighter fruit aromas and flavors than their syrah, with ample red currant, blackberry, and baking spices on the nose. Very faint herbal tones, pepper, mocha, graphite and slate mingled along side the bright red and black fruit. Acidity and oak are kept in check, but it was still tight & tannic and took a while to unravel. Finish was silky and lingered on. It is very well-balanced, which leads me to believe this will lay down nicely for a few years before it's truly ready. Drink 2014-2024. 92-93 points. Purchased several from the winery.
