  • Last night of the DECADE people!!!!

Opened decanted, and drank over 8 hours
Initial tasting glass on the open frightened me. Six hours later, the weird funkiness has disappeared. It was on like Donkey Kong.
    Thick, murky, ox-blood in color
Stewed prunes, faint black fruit, leather, iodine, pencil shavings, loamy
lots of leather, some anise, fruit candy with a medium finish. Some wet earth notes carrying through (ever face plant into the grass on a soccer/football field on a rainy day)

So happy this bottle turned out. In addition the cork was murdered. Went well with the rack of lamb we did up tonight. Drink NOW!

    Oh yeah, MAGNUMS are BETTER!

    Happy New Years everyone.

  • Slightly overdone with notes of cocao and coffee, a bit fat; not overly modern, perhaps, but they seem to have done just a bit much here... while there is no signs of fatigue, time to drink up, I think...

  • Not decanted. Popped and let sit open for 3 hours. Matrue garnet-red color with considerable wateriness at the rim. Classy, balanced nose of tar, hot stones, cherries, flowers, earth and tea. Deceptively mouthfilling and complete with good fruit, moderate tannin and good acidity. Very, very long finish laden with tar. Seemed to drop of and get a bit lean at the backend though. Served at Ron Hodges' house with braised lamb shank.
