deep and dense; perfectly ripe; acidity stands up to the big fruit; sweet oak, christmas spice and earth; would have guessed a bit of young petit syrah was added to the glass; i have a mixed past with barolo, but every so often, one surprises and amazes me.

One our wines of the year. This has developed better than the vintage would have anticipated. Super nose with hints of chocolate and dark cherries. Plenty of brick rim around a deep coffee colour in the glass. Complex and full but not overbearing. Agree the vintage means it may not last but I might just leave one to 2030!

Popped and poured at Fiorino. No roses or red tones, here. All dark fruits, tar, black licorice. Fairly rich and big, but plenty of acid and a little tannin remaining. I don’t see this getting any better from here, so I’ll try to drink my remaining bottles over the next couple years. That said, we both enjoyed this bottle.

Nose is conveying that it is beyond its peak, still a lot of structure, tannins, body, but the pleasant flavors are not there. Not enjoyable alone, needs to be had with food. Opens as times goes by but never softens without the bite of tannins of a bold red beyond its time.

Char Siew tasting at Bishan. Pop and poured. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Re-tasted again 1+ day later. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of vanilla, polished wood with borderline nail varnish, black cherries, dark red cherries. Day 2 added on sour red cherries and redcurrant and hint of soy earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, high alcohol (15%), smooth polished high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, polished woody oak. Day 2 revealed the additional underlayer of classic sour red cherry and redcurrant. Long juicy and a little creamy finish, with some earthy bite and a hint of emerging mushroom. Good quality. Well-made. Built to last. Though the high alcohol and oak initially led me to guess this as a modern SuperTuscan or modern Brunello. Vigna Giachini is a parcel in the lower part of the Rocche dell'Annunziata cru in the commune of La Morra.

Blind, slight brick rim, husky, humus, mushroom, menthol, vanilla, oak, very ripe chewy red fruits, salty, slightly bitter lengthy finish. This has everything in a glass. There is so much here to last another 20+ years, WOW!

Starting into its drinking window. Give it lots of air. A glorious Barolo, which complemented a truffle risotto beautifully. Aromas of red fruits, spices wood. Beautiful sweetness and balance on the palate.

Really good, full throttle Barolo. This definitely seems a bit more modern, but it is delicious. The nose is full of red berries, tar, tobacco, and floral notes. There is also some spice and dark fruit lying under the initial scents. The palate is lush and has well integrated tannins. It melds into an open and delicious wine that was really fantastic with a rack of lamb.

Coming home tonight after what so far has been a long week, I opened the door to find John Coltrane on the radio, a white veggie pizza and this in a decanter on the counter, and a nice fire going in the fire place. My day was suddenly looking a lot brighter. The wine smells great but the 15% alc shows a little. Licorice, tar and hints of mineral, mushroom and tobacco on the nose. Modern in style with quite a bit of fruit and good balancing acidity. Again there is licorice and some tar. At times I get the faint mushroom and tobacco but when you swirl the glass it is more fruit and licorice that stand out. With air, the tannins unfurl and reminds you how young and structured the wine is. I really enjoyed this tonight but I won't open another for 8 to 10 years unless my wife beats me to it.

Pop and pour. Very tannic and closed on Day 1, but opened sufficiently by day 2, to become a decent (but still tannic) wine. Needs 3 hours decant on opening. Needs 10 years in cellar..

Osso Buco Night (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: There is a lusher quality to the nose with tones of red fruits, berries, red cherries, roasted herbs, roses, and spice tones. There is nice depth on the nose with an open-knit quality as well.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and silky tannins. The feel is a bit more plush with tones of red fruits, red cherries, roasted herbs, roses, and some spice tones.
Overall: This was showing extremely well at this younger stage. It is somewhat expected given the vintage, and it was a well balanced and aromatic young barolo.

North Berkeley Wines New Release Tasting (Presidio Golf Course, San Francisco): Lighter than the regular '08. Beautiful florality. Real delicacy while delivering explosive flavor and inner mouth fragrance. Already a pleasure to drink, this is my mind's eye image of absolutely gorgeous young Barolo. Burgundian in its flavor authority without being a blockbuster.

excellent barolo that is drinking well already for my palate although will likely only improve with age. i assume modern techniques are used to soften the tannins and make it approachable and open but the character of the wine is still traditional la morra with lovely floral, cherry, and spice.

Opened much too early. Gave it an hour decant and it could have used a little more. The nose had some nice fruit on it. While smooth as can be the tannins were a little firm. Time for this to sleep a little before the next one.

Very pretty wild forest berries and strawberries, powerful but very refined tannins (short maceration in roto-fermenters?), extremely elegant wine with great balancing freshness and spices. Needs a lot more time but this is a true Barolo beauty. - 93+

WCC Barolo & Barbaresco Blind (Yono's Restaurant, Albany, NY): [Double decanted around 6am.] Surprisingly similar to the 2000. Appealing but spoofy. 89-91 points.
