Joe's tasting of four Italian wines from his cellar and dinner. First place. Lovely old wine nose of leather, dust, cassis, plum and fig, more of the same on the palate, most complex and enjoyable of the group by far.

Dark in color and hard to tell this from a recent vintage visually. It had a typical Italian bottle stink for 30 minutes and took about 3 hours in the decanter to hit its peak and what a peak it was! Tannins are still powerful with grape stem and dark fruit flavors along tobacco and everything else typical of Chianti. This vintage is not at a plateau yet, so it should drink well for another 20 year easily.

Still holding up, this 21-year old Chianti was fully mature, with dusty tannins, leather, spice, and cedar. Paired well with a veal sausage ragu. With the Knowles. Drink up.

Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: Malbec (current releases) (Augie's): Aromas of tea leaf, black currants, fig and dark fruit. Nice mix of red and dark fruit, cherry and floral qualities on the palate. Nice finish.

Magnum Society (Wellington): fairly light colour fading to pink - slight hint of brown. Solid commercial style. Very good.
