Surprisingly fruit forward and new world. A bit jammy with dark berry and plum fruit. As others have noted, plenty of oak in here as well. Maybe not a great Ribera del Duero but a good red wine.

Evidently the drinking public in my hometown does not appreciate a 2009 Ribera Del Duero, as we found this on the close out shelf of our favorite local retailer. To me, this is still in it's youth. When pouring into the decanter, there was big dark cherry, caramel, and smoky oak. A little research reveals they used some American oak, probably medium heavy toast, which explains the caramel on the nose. There is a very nice combination of "New World" fruitiness and "Old World" earthy, mineral rusticity. The color is dark purple, but not all that opaque. The bottle age has helped everything integrate, while the black cherry fruit is still exuberant. The acid and tannins taste mature, but at this time perfectly accompany the fruit. The black cherry finish lingers for minutes.

Big name change in 1992 or something like that because they used to be called Riberia del Duero. Protos was the first. Big oak on the nose like an old school with some barrique showing through. Meat and fruit on the palate. For $17 its there.

A bit heavy on oak but lots of very soft tannins. Very nice nutmeg and nature dark fruit in the background. 100 percent Tempranillo. Ribera del duero calks it Tinto fino

Really nice old world Tempranillo. This had a wonderful silky mouth feel. Flavors of jammy dark berries, earthy musty flavor balance, and peppery spices.

Hmmm, another Spanish wine that I enjoyed, go figure. This is a very pretty wine from a color perspective, a little like garnet lipstick with purple edges, the description on the bottle was spot on. A nose of red berries and oak follow through with a sour cherry and light oak mid-palate. Upon finish, you get a quick hit of spice and a finish of medium length. Worth another purchase.

Clear ruby red, medium-dark in color with almost a purple fringe Aromatic nose of dark red berries and just a hint of oak Dry, medium-full body with good acidity and mid-level tannins Intense berry flavors on the palate along with matching spicy notes which paired nicely in the long finish. Well done and would definetly buy this again, this bottle was a gift from a great friend.
