My favourite of the 8 vintage vertical. Nose is ripe and powerful. Seductive black fruit, oak and leather. Palate is plush, long and tannic. Structured. Rich fruit. Earthy finish. Excellent length. At peak.

Initially quite earthy and herbal, which quickly blew off to reveal cherry fruit, cassis, oak, tobacco and some herbs. Reasonably tannic for a 20-year old wine. Improved with air and swirling, this would have benefitted from decanting, too.
Tasty with our roasted, herbal rack of lamb.
No where near mature, it was out drunk by the Petit Eglise 2000 (a 2nd wine). If I had more bottles with decent storage (I bought this in 2007) I would age this some more.

A classic Right Bank Bordeaux at its peak. Deep plum in color; complex nose of tobacco, vanilla, leather and a hint of smoke. Similar flavor notes with hints of old red fruit and a long complex finish. This is Bordeaux the way it was meant to be. The consensus here is that, with proper cellaring, it is has at least a few more years of life. But drinking great right now.

Stewed cherries, green pepper, vanilla, and leather on the nose. Still big and fruit forward. Boysenberry, blackberry, clay, white pepper, leather, cedar, earth, decaying tree on the palate. Big, bold, masculine. Drinking wonderfully for an off-year wine. Really tannic and astringent still. Lots of fruit left, and tastes pretty young. But smooth and delicious! Great effort! 93-94

IMO the freshness and transparency of the vintage really suits this modern day Pomerol well. In this edition balance is the keyword for a wine that normally showes a lot of oak and extraction. Like it al lot.

Dark ruby and crimson in the glass. Interesting nose, meaty with black current / black berries and dust; a little zippy at first it goes on to be toned down by softer dull tones. Palate shows waves of black fruit, peppercorn and cloves that reveal heavy oak on the mid palate and finish. Finish is layered in oak / vanilla, mocha ad a minty streak. Tannins were slightly drying at first and gave the mid palate a hollow sensation but that faded with a two hour decant to show a nice mid-weight body. There is a nice acid level, but it takes a while to show up. Nice effort but too much oak and too modern for my tastes (not that I'm surprised). Good - drink or hold

Drank at the chateau. Nose and palate of spice, meat, dark fruit, coffee and chocolate. Very spicy and meaty on the palate. Medium finish with decent depth. I would drink this soon.

Visit to Château Le Bon Pasteur: Nose with red berries, a hint of tar, mild dried spices, barnyard aromas, leather, typical developed Bordeaux nose. Medium bodied (+), palate with red and some dark berries, some sweetness of fruit, medium tannins of a rounded character, just a hint of bitterness. Pleasant development and maturity, can take more but is rather ready in development, 89 p.

I opened this bottle with trepidation, I bought it at the tasting in 2005 being a newbie in Bordeaux. Have no fears, the wine is ready for business, complex, lots of cassis and long finish. Should be good for another 5-7+ years easily!

2012 CellarTracker Bordeaux Trip; 5/21/2012-5/24/2012 (Bordeaux, France): 80% Merlot / 20% Cabernet Franc. Rich aromas of dark dried fruits and dark cherries come through on the nose, along with black plums, saddle leather, and a touch of fresh mint. A fair bit of spicy black pepper up front on the palate, followed by black plums, red cherries, leather, some graphite - lead pencil, with a slight green note evident as well. A little bit of soft tannins remain, along with a light amount of acidity. Medium length finish ending on notes of red cherries and a bit of tar. While being quite simple and soft on the palate, this was very well balanced and has integrated nicely with some time under its belt. This is just entering its peak and is drinking very well right now. To be honest I enjoyed this more than I thought I would, a great effort for the tough '02 vintage. Good+
