From magnum. Clear yellow. This wine seems to be mellowing nicely. Citrusy nose of a Sauvignon blanc, mouthfeel of a good chard, but no oak or butter. Great with sword fish. 17% alcohol for a white!. That's why I fell asleep during Succession. The 2010 was funky. Also enjoyed the Sylphs and Prince whites by Scholium. Every bottle is an adventure....

Definitely oaky but surprisingly balanced given the abv. Honey, yellow apple and quince in addition to the oak. Light acidity and medium mineral notes add balance. Not my favorite style but for what it is, very well made.

Clear, bright straw color. Toasty oak on the nose with little fruit expression. Palate is dominated by buttery oakiness. Quite one dimensional, may benefit with several years in the cellar.

For more money than Montelena and Shafer Red Shoulder, I was expecting something more. As least it wasn't tainted by bacterial infection like the other whites. However, the only flavors I got were diacetyl related - buttered waffles - and that's considered a flaw by many. In the final analysis, it's similar to a Napa Chard from the mis 1980s.

This is good. It is not old-school. This is buttered coconut soaked in alcohol with a lemon spritz. However, when I look back at the price, I would not pay that much for this wine. Not sure where the parallel to Chablis is coming from. This is much more like sitting in a darkened movie theatre while licking the theater butter form the inside of an empty popcorn cup while chewing on a Mounds bar that someone else has already licked the chocolate off of.

Scholium Dinner (Ripple - Cleveland Park, Washington, D.C.): From a barrel sample. Incredibly weighty chardonnay. Nose has an interesting waxiness to it with lots of lemon, herbs, and honey. The palate is rich and smooth with considerable weight. The alcohol was a bit aggressive for me, but I imagine time will help turn this aspect down a bit.

Enjoyed by Jill, Lisa and Lisa - to the point of them wanting to add it to their planned high-end Chardonnay tasting list.

This has a very intrigueing nose, which eventually blows away; Good weight in the middle but the finish falls flat

Great nose, of honey and citrus. Tasted minerals, and some kick at the very end.
