  • An impressive and lovely wine. Rich color, yet not so dark as to be untrue to the grape. Lovely nose of slightly roasted chestnuts, nutmeg, potpourri. Same on the palate with a hint of that good armpit stuff. My only complaint is that it does not (yet, anyway) have the classic, gorgeous pinot mouthfeel -- still mild, resolving tannins. There's no contest between this and their 2010 "sans bois" pinot. To me, this wine shows what the Pinnacles terroir can produce. Will peak in 2017-2020.

  • Wow, this is the real thing. This 2005 still has plenty of life in the bottle. A very good example of California meets Burgundy. The color is as dark and rich as any Pinot I have ever seen. The nose is pure Bugundian clones with mushroom compost, wet forest floor, gun metal and black cherry. The flavors are layered and concentrated enough to break above 90 points. Still relatively young, the fruit and the oak are just now starting to let some other flavors share the limelight. The plum, black currant and other dark fruit flavors are surrounded by charcoal, licorice, cola, road tar and vanilla. Plenty of assertive acidic backbone.
