  • On PnP, relatively muted aroma, the main thing that comes across is stone and earth. Maybe a little red berry. Colour is a nice deep purple/red. Initial flavours of raspberry, moderate tannin, and a ton of minerality, almost to the point of feeling like licking limestone.

After a while (about half an hour) the wine starts to integrate a bit and the fruit comes out - tart cherry, I think. Still not a major part of the wine, but it's getting better. Surprisingly viscous. A touch of eucalyptus is also showing now. After a while longer, it's developed a sort of perfume. I'd get more of this to see how it evolves.

  • From vines planted in 2000, per the back label. In a lot of ways this tastes more like cabernet franc than malbec, and probably structured more like a Loire cab franc too. It gets a lot of its structure from its tense acidic spine though after a little bit the tannic muscle becomes more obvious. It's got a juicy drinkability to it, a real thirst-quencher, but the aromas are already tertiary and savory.
