Group pizza night at Luzzo's in the East Village. No tasting notes. But the entire group (21 people) seemed to like it. It went well with the pizza and on its own. Sadly, my last two bottles. It was a bargain for the price.

Antonio Galloni, in the Wine Advocate (#205, Feb 2013) gave this a 92, which I think it a little high. Its bone dry, with notes of tar and dark fruits. Blackberry, maybe? This really needs food to be enjoyed. On its own it just doesn't work for sipping. Had this at a dinner with some other wines and this was the one left over. For the $20 I paid for the bottle, a pretty good deal.

I'm really digging this varietal lately. This wine showed a nice white pepper note on the nose and some good acidity that helps it work nicely with hearty Italian foods. $22 is a decent price for this tasty pop'n'pour wine.

Licorice and tar backbone with tons of stone fruits. Lots of soft tannins to go with the great fruit. An excellent value on the QPR scale. Excellent.

Nice $20 aglianico. Vegetal nose. Black aglianico fruit, some wood and tobacco. Enough acid and tannin to keep awhile.

popped and poured; a perfect partner to pizza, rich and dark with dark fruit and smokey flavors slight tannic finish that time will tame.
