PnP. Given its leanness and high acidity, I poured into a decanter without agitating and enjoyed over ~4 hours. At first, it was lean with sour cherry notes and little else. By the end of the evening the wine had put on weight and depth, showing its mineral side and darker fruits. This certainly evolved into a beauty and given how much life was left in this bottle (not yet at peak), and I plan on waiting 5 years to open another in the hope of seeing the tertiary characteristics of this riserva Brunello.

this was a very smooth wine; no acidity, not tannic overload; I dont think this could have drank any better than it did tonight. The bartender and HOME's owner went nuts over the wine. fruit forward with a hint of cranberry, earthy but not over the top. This made for a great evening

This was our last bottle of 2006 Riserva and it did not disappoint. I will admit, I am a big fan of Poggio Antico but that does not take away from the beauty of this wine. We opened 90 minutes before tasting and as the dinner progressed the wine improved immensely. Great tannins and very good berry overtones. We took a chance and paired it with skirt steak, farro mixed with corn, roasted cherry tomatoes and goat cheese, served room temp along with sautéed mushrooms. It was awesome…thank you Poggio Antico

My first bottle from the case, and i was concerned from prior tasting notes that i would be disappointed-- not at all. With 2 hours decant this wine is in its prime. The bouquet and flavors were classic and rich, with a meaty tinge and a 40 second finish. It paired perfectly with salmon, and pasta with a red sauce. Definitely a 94 with upside potential. Should drink for at least another 5 years.

I thought this might be too young to open but not at all. I had expected more fruit and tannin than there seemed to be. People enjoyed this at the dinner, particularly those who like wines on the more delicate side (which include me), and while it's pretty good, I came away a little disappointed. A little thin / lacking structure maybe. Remember enjoying the 04 more.

Decanted for there + hours. A touch corked. Even thru that it was not as good as expected. Certainly in no rush to drink these. Maybe an off bottle will reserve judgment until next one.

This is the first bottle we opened since we visited the winery in 2013 and we were not disappointed. Super silky Brunello magnificent aromas with notes of cherries and vanilla. Still have 15 bottles of '04's, '06's '07's and 08 to enjoy

At the winery with Giulia: Brown sauce/spice, ripe, intense cherry, cherry skin, intense red fruits, super silky, lovely spicy aspect/Italian herbs; great structure, length, but still young. Very well made, excellent. Made only in exceptional years. 1 yr. French tonneau and 2.5 yrs botte grande.

Bottle from our 15th anniversary trip to Montalcino last year where we visited Poggio Antico. The trick with age worthy wines like Brunellos seems to be knowing when to open them. We have some 2010s but are keeping our hands off those for now so decided to go ahead and open this 2006.
Very aromatic right out of the bottle, the nose will take you straight back to Tuscany if you've ever been there. The profile is one of dark fruit (blackberry) with notes of black licorice, dried fig, and new leather. The oak from those big Slovenian oak casks is still very present, although not overpowering. In reality, probably should have held onto this one for a few more years as I do believe it will continue to improve if stored properly.

A week in Tuscany (and Lots of wines); 10/19/2015-10/21/2015 (Tuscany, Italy): A much better showing than the 08's. I mentioned to my friends that I usually prefer the regular to the riservas as I don't think the extra ageing adds good stuff to the wine. Our hostess over heard that and stated "you are not wrong, from a particular point of view, but that point of view is wrong". Great quote. Her point was that the Riservas need to age even more. Oh well. In any event, this wine was quite good at 9 years from vintage. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries, cedar and vanilla. Maybe a bit of forest funk too. On the palate, this has black cherries and vanilla. Oak tannins. Perhaps it still needs more time to get even better. I liked it, but I think the oak was bit too pervasive. In any event, I ended up buying the range of the 07 BdM's including the Riservas so over time, perhaps I can find out if my point of view was wrong. ;-)

This wine had a terrible nose, stinky is a word I would use. The taste was also not good. We poured the wine out after one hour. Very disappointing.

2hr decant. A little thin. Nothing like the 07 altero. Hoping it gets better in time but not hopeful. Wait a few years for next bottle.
