Still has some punch to it, fortunately. Clear rim with amber colors but ruby gleaning thru the core in the glass. On the nose, rosemary, cinnamon, blueberry bramble & English walnut. On the pallet, baked plum, cranberry, Asian spice, slightly burnt toffee. Heat on the back of the throat. I’m pleasantly surprised this wine still shows ripe fruit - long finish. Drink now or soon to enjoy this balanced fruit/tertiary stage. I feel that it is at or just past it’s peak.

Rhone Dinner (Circus Private Kitchen, Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong): No detailed notes but this was singing tonight and one of the best wines along with the Chapoutier Hermitage La Sizerane 1990 drank alongside it. Likely fully mature but doubt it will decline in the next 5+ more years. It went brilliantly with Moroccan food. Thanks for both wines, Olivier!

From magnum. Popped and poured. I have had great luck with this Chateau. Always high quality wines and this was no different. Bright ruby red color with perfect clarity. Classic CdP flavors of spice, dark cherries, mild pepper, kirsch. Drinking well right now. My only knock would be that this is somewhat linear and doesnt offer a lot in the way of secondary and tertiary flavors. Maybe that is to come with more age. This was drinking quite youthfully.

The nose is pretty, showing very ripe black fruit with a slightly figgy character and lots of truffly savory Mourvedre funk (not brett funk). In hte mouth it's rich and silky with a nice contrast between sweet fruit and savory age, but I'd like a little more acidity and the alcohol shows more than I would prefer. I think I'd like a less ripe vintage of this better. Others liked more than me.

1990 ANYTHING Dinner (Our house): Drank over 3 hours. A very enjoyable mature CdP. Nose of pretty red fruit, meat and herbs. More of the same on the palate. Bright and easy. Very Burgundian feel. Medium depth and finish.

Truffle & Chateauneuf du Pape hunting in Provence; 11/7/2013-11/10/2013 (Crillon Le Brave): Still going stong and consistent in the 3 years since we tried this last. No need to decant here in our view just be careful of sediment. Quite a white pepper note, spicy in general still, a touch gamey, herby, light liquorice on the note but also with light dark fruit. On the palate it is still healthy and alive and with good life ahead.Dark fruit feel too. Less eveloved than the gorgeous 92 we tried the night before but this is a very good wine. 92 and drink now

CT offline, blind entry #33. It's showing as well as it did 18 months ago, which is to say, that even in 750ml format, this has another 5-8 years of very nice drinking ahead of it. I didn't get a chance to decant, though the aeration surely would have helped it along. Last glass was the best. Cork in like new condition. Classy, classy drop. 13,5% abv

Slow-O 3 hours. I could have decanted this for sediment (plenty) but didn't. The cork was soft and spongy, barely even soaked. The color, youthful ruby core, very little sign of age. I'm a happy man at this point, and the rest of the experience made me even more so. Superb aromatics of melted red licorice, garrigue, raspberries, grilled meat, clove and light toast. In an excellent place right now, the medium body well supported by ample acids, the tannins resolved, but still offering plenty of grip. This could go another decade, but I believe it to be at peak right now. Really quite elegant and a welcome surprise. recommended, 13,5%

Sampled 5/8/12. Decanted to blow off some funk. Good to go in 30 minutes. Color is very good. Just starting to gain some amber, but no real bricking yet. Like the 2005 plenty of chalk and limestone after mid palate. Red fruits with some black currant. Silky smooth, but for just a twinge of acidity and then the limestone chalk at the end still leaves the wine with an interesting mouthfeel. The wine never faded over 2+ hours.

From magnum. The cork showed a lot of seepage, and was the softest cork I've had to deal with, yet came out intact, more or less. Color shows its age, with tarnished garnet core dimming through orange all the way to clear on the rim. Aromas start off very funky, reminiscent of an old, dirt-encrusted leather boot, but with some air, develop into intriguing dried fruits and tobacco notes, with autumnal character underneath. On the palate, the old saddle-leather dominates, but there is noticable spice, dried apricot, dried cherry, and tar that carry through on to the finish. Tannins are fully matured, but there remains good acidity that keeps it alive through the finish. A very interesting, and well made wine.

i have never been a fan of this wine. especially in the 90 vintage. it was in a lineup that included many of the top end chateuneufs from the 89 and 90 vintages [rayas, centenaire, jacques perrin, celestins], so it was at a very real disadvantage. i thought it a bit diluted with proper fruit but nothing that induced the wow factor.

opened not decanted 3 hrs---Deep ruby red, no brown edges; very complex nose- minerality ( iron/blood), cigar box, white pepper, faint anise; full bodied, completely smooth red cherries, currants, pomegranates , underlying mild chalkiness; seamless, smooth finish, soft tannins give a little lift to the end, stops the fruitiness; long finish
Papi Birthday Dinner (The Papies, London): From magnum. Opened 2 hours ahead but no decanting. Nice open on the nose very CdP nose and with lots of expression. Well round and now at its peak. A bit barnish and lacks elegance , a peasant among the bordeaux that followed, but a very nice wine indeed. 91+

Older Rhone Dinner (Custom House): Full opaque black/red color. Big tight sweet black fruit nose. Huge almost jammy black fruit with slight coffee notes on the finish. A very different style than the previous two wines. Still has pleny of life left...
