  • Excellent dry Riesling with a lot of extract. Definitely fits what I expect from a spatlese trocken and it didn't let me down. Great stuff, long life ahead of it, and a stupidly good price.

  • Medium straw in color. Still fresh and vibrant - much more complex than iI expected at the prices point - wish I’d bought more.

  • Poured a beautiful bright golden yellow. On the nose seemed to be an almost overbearing petrol note counterbalanced with pear and lime. Honeydew, grapefruit, and honey on the palate accompanied with a wonderful salinity. Had this been presented to me with its vintage undisclosed to me, I would have never guessed it was a 14 year old treat. It had such youthful fruit and spectacular, puckering acidity.

  • I know nothing about this wine...and am not really "into" Riesling, especially German...but I do appreciate the style and a good bottle or two. I was sold this wine a long time ago, from someone I bought Trimbach FE from, and noted that dry style that I prefer. Cracked this bottle on a whim...first noted the tropical creamy fruits...mainly pineapple...green apple tartness...candied peach...banana skin wax...but here is where this wine shines...KILLER crushed mineral salinity! LOVE the dryness in this wine...very Trimbach-ish...smoky flint strike, yet perceived sweetness from the ripe and full bodied fruits...the dryness and crisp acidity...coupled with the exotic tropical flower florals makes it! Waxy and full bodied texture is pleasing...little white honey butter and petrol from aged complexity is engaging...SO pleasing and a true joy to drink!
For people in the know...tell me more about this wine and producer?

  • drank over two days, more settled on day 2. much of the bitternote has turned into minerality, austere fruit in the mid palate, very dry mouthfeel. I remember a 1988 Reinhartshausen Spätlese Trocken, drank in the mid 90s, also dry, that wine developed firn with ageing and became smoother and a nice interpretation of a dry late harvest wine. will keep my last bottle at least 3-5 years to see this mature. 87 points for now.

  • very dry, slim and short on the palate, not a vintage to drink young, I suppose. I will wait 3-5 years with the next bottle. I had this opened and then kept the bottle for a week in the fridge and an initial slight bitter note vanished, possibly this is still too closed. This is not a wine with the crispy acidity of the Reinharthausens' in the 80s and 90s but we will see. For now only 83p.

  • So beautifull. Well aged best classic dry and almost lightly salted Rheingau Riesling. Slim fit.

  • Es ist wie von mir unten beschrieben, diesmal direkt aus dem größeren Glas braucht der Wein dennoch seine Zeit. Für einen Rheingauer endlich mal wieder richtig trocken. Innerhalb von 2h dann trinken.

  • Offered for 36€/48USD for three bottles. Regular bottle price is around 18€/27USD.
Medium golden-yellow, crystal clear. Initially rather muted, aromas improve with temperature. Nose of stones and minerals, vineyard peach, apple and citrus, light, fresh (11.5/15p.). The palate is very dry, hardly any residual sugar, fresh, clean, vivid, aromas of citrus and peach again, medium(-) fruit, medium acidity (11.5./15p.). Well balanced, clear structure, light bodied (7.5/10p.). The finish is lasting, dry, with a nice peachy aftertaste (7.5/10p.).
11.5+11.5+7.5+7.5(+50) = 88/100 - A very dry, very fresh Riesling. Not my favourite one but very good nevertheless. Do not serve too cold, maybe wait another 1-2 years until opening.

Sehr gut.

  • Thin, slightly yellow color. Reticent, slightly developed nose with hints of mushrooms, smoky minerality and a touch of spiritus fortis. Initially dry and slightly unpretentious, but quickly the wine gains more depth, sweetness and weight: developed notes of pink grapefruit, smoky minerality, some nuttiness and a hint of creaminess. A serious, heavy-set overall impression. Midpalate lacks a bit in the acid department, but less so in the finish. Rather noticeable (13,5 g/l) RS gives a soft, off-dry touch to the lengthy finish. Lemon marmalade, smoky minerality and crunchy acidity in the aftertate.

An unconventional, even aberrant Riesling - a wild card for a blind tasting! Hard to say whether this wine is suitable for ageing or if it will fade out quickly. Nevertheless, it is highly personal Riesling with a nice touch of balancing sweetness. Will give nice, weighty counterbalance to a light meal. An OK, though slightly pricey purchase at 30-35€.

  • A tasting at Schloss Reinhartshausen (Vinothek): No Erstes Gewächs this year. Very dry (< 2 gr. RS), extremely minerally but also a bit unknit, structure reminds me of Dauvissat's Chablis 2009, needs time.
