During a La Paulee dinner, so no detailed tasting notes. Pristine bottle from a merchant. Very light color, almost translucent but boy the aromas filled the entire room. Peach tea, rose petals, some gamey notes. Holy cow, who would have thought.

It had a complex nose with smoke, meat and loads of earth and black tea. It's palate was mature, earthy, nutty with sweet brown sugar flavours and a leathery finish. Ready, and I wouldn't hold this for much longer.

Fully mature, and maybe in decline. You expect fireworks because of the name and the value, but forget about those and you have a delicate mature wine, that probably never was that great, but still retains a touch of class.

It was a little simple on first pour but really got going with a bit of air. The nose was all rose petals, musk and red fruit. There was a wisp[ of smoke and some soy and earth. It was lacy in the mouth with good breadth and a finish that really fanned out. A sensual wine and very much textbook RSV.

A very good bottle of aged red Burg drinking at the top of its game. Complex savoury aromatics of black tea, beef stock, mirepoix, decaying rose and freshly tilled black earth. It was fine and lacy in the mouth with vinous sweetness countering all of the savoury elements. It was quite gentle on the finish but still made its presence felt long after the wine was swallowed.

Very delicate aromatics, floral. Light of body, but not lacking in elegance. Strawberries. Fully mature and should be drunk. (17525/25840)
