  • Drunk at La Taverna Hong Kong - A significant amount of volatile acidity on the nose initially which did eventually dissipate. Once the VA had gone there was a pleasant enough wine underneath. It's fully resolved and probably not yet in decline but hard to get too excited.

  • Still extremely impressive with tart cherry, delicate acid, stewed fruit with an underscore of chocolate. There is a slight bit of green veg, could be confused with dry herbs, however still a quality wine and very indicative of Bolgheri.

  • This had nice dark earthy smoky nose, dried leaves, tobacco, dried out old cigar box. Palate with a bit thin, a bit tart, tannins completely resolved, at the end of its need to age, maybe a bit past, but still lovely and was perfect with whole wheat pasta w/salssice and kale at Kali. • Not quite what it once was but this is all about the nose. Beautiful seductive and subtle. Raspberry and strawberry jam dominate all warped up in smoke and tar. You just want to keep smelling this one. Moving to the lighter side with a shorter dry finish. Nicely balanced but well past its peak. Great for the vintage and its still so pleasurable even after its long life in the bottle. Drink now.

  • robe, encore très belle. Encore sent encore du fruit rouge (fraise), aérien, mais l'étonnement ne dure pas longtemps, après une heure, presque plus rien

  • Orange peels and a bit of gluey notes. Lots of red cherries and very fresh. Sappy grippy with chicken feathers. Youthful.

  • A "Blended" Birthday Dinner (Garibaldi, Purvis Street, Singapore): This would have been a really good wine in its own right, but it had the tremendous misfortune of sharing a flight with a beautiful bottle of 1981 Latour. Still though, it is a testimony of how good this was that it was not completely overshadowed by the great Bordeaux. This had a lovely nose on it, with ripe scents of dark plums and sweet cassis patted down with damp earth, some slight floral hints and a curl of sweet oak. It was a riper, sweeter nose than the Latour, almost hinting at a certain voluptuousness - something that had most of us guessing this as an Italian Super-Tuscan. The palate more or less confirmed that. It had really high acidity, almost tomato-ish, with a lovely fresh liveliness running through sweet cassis and ripe plum flavours. On the night, it seemed a bit narrow, lacks the sheer breadth of the Latour. But I am really not knocking the wine. It was great in its own right, with a nice full depth and luscious sweet fruit held in lovely balance, with fine tannins still lending the wine a nice bit of structure. Very enjoyable indeed. It finished very nicely too, with spice and flowers and chocolate notes pulling away in a beautifully generous backpalate. This was a warm, welcoming wine that still seemed so youthful even after 33 years. A real achievement, and one of the better wines I have had from my birth-year.
