NOSE: plums and grape-flavored hard candy; smells like a gutsy Flanders Red.
BODY: medium-light bodied; medium head dissipates quickly; black color.
TASTE: quite tart; very nice light-to-moderate oak note on the finish; moderate mineral note – reminds me of freshly-fallen snow; although stout is an ale, this would be more appropriately called a sour dark ale rather than a sour stout, as this does not come across like a Stout --- way too light/not roasted or smoky; 5.6% alc. not noticeable; not as vineagary as a Flanders Red; nice, dry mineral edge on the finish; doesn’t taste like there’s any brett here; quite good, but not worth what I paid (~$30) – I would consider a rebuy around $15, though, as that would make it a pricey Flanders Red, and I think it’s deserving of that price point; back label says this can age for up to 3 years, but there’s no vintage date, bottling date, lot number, or BBE date anywhere on the bottle, cap, or label <--- amateur hour. Excellent beer. As a sour ale: 8.0 – 9.0/10. This is on par with most RRBC sours I’ve had.
