    En bouche les arômes de pierre à fusil, fumée, iode . Le palais est long et très minéral, sans lourdeur. La fin de bouche est moelleuse et riche;
    Vin avec un très grand potentiel de garde.

  • Clear deep gold; clean medium nose of honey, ginger, mango, apricot and bruised apple; medium sweet; high acidity; medium plus alcohol; full body; medium plus flavour intensity; pfn; long finish; drink now; wonderfully balanced Pinot Gris - we’re never disappointed by Zind-Humbrecht

  • Incredibly complex nose right out of the gate: Mango, honeycomb, banana, orange peel. Almost too exuberant at first. However, after 30 minutes of air the nose focused considerably, turning towards strawberries, raspberries, honeycomb, ripe peach and classic rangen aromatics (flint, smoke, oceanspray).

    The palate is fairly sweet upon entry, but then a searing acidity cleans your mouth 5 seconds later. Very nicely balanced, but almost too sweet for many food pairings. We had it with butter chicken and palak paneer, which worked very well.

    I much preferred this after it had been open for 30 minutes. In addition, we tested this in both the Zalto Universal and Zalto white wine glasses. Much better focus and balance in the white wine glasses, with less exotic fruits and more elegant berries. This wine is not for the uninitiated, but requires a more intellectual approach to fully enjoy the complexity and the changing aromatics.

  • Clear deep gold; clean medium nose of honey, pineapple, caramel sauce and mango; pfn with addition of sweet grapefruit pith; off dry; high acidity; full body; medium plus finish; a fabulous wine but loses its intensity more quickly than I would have liked; maybe an off bottle or maybe it’s starting to fade; still an amazing drinking experience

  • Birthday wines (ZH, Borgogno, Kapcsandy) (Fire): We started with a glass of this and then came back to it later with our Wedge and Blue Cheese Salad and then a final glass at the end of the night. Perfect each time. It is that versatile. Deep gold orange in color. The nose is outstanding. An orange peel and honey note at first but then a herbal note melds in. With lots of air it becomes more minerally. It has an almost Riesling quality to it but not quite. On the palate, this is sweet. I could not find an indice but there is a fair amount of rs here. Certainly not cloying or anything like that. Enough acidity to work well with it. Flavors of orange, orange peel and minerals on the palate. Deep and complex. Long finish. Although the color looked advanced, the palate and nose seemed young. This wine should have years left. Not inexpensive on the Pinot Gris scale but this is a world class excellent wine. Just gorgeous.

  • A visit to Zind Humbrecht (Alsace, France): I loved this wine (bought a bottle). No idea where or when to serve it as it is an oddball, but it is outstanding. Light golden in color. The nose is very cool. It has a sugary/honey quality but also some orange citrus and tangerine. Then thee is this almost bell pepper quality that is lovely in this context. An underlying rocky quality to the nose is there as well. On the palate, this is very sweet. Dessert like but not cloying. Enough acidity to balance it out. It starts slow and just keeps building on the palate. Citrus, minerals, maybe some quince paste and simple syrup. The finish goes on. Still showing young, this seems like a wine built for decades. Then at the end of the finish, it has a bitter/almond/Gewurz note that is a perfect ending. Needless to say, i bought a bottle.

  • Off dry, which was a surprise. No sweetness scale. Excellent depth and concentration. A touch of botrytis. Very good.

  • YES...avec doleur. Beautiful but way too young, no development but all the components, you want to see in a grand cru pinot gris...typical Z-H in being quite sweet. But, a lot of balancing spice.
