This is over the hill. The color is too amber and there's a bit too much burnt petrol on the nose for me to think otherwise. It's still an enjoyable wine considering how well-balanced the sugar and acid remain, but the fruit profile is that of stale cider rather than energetic Riesling. To each their own.

Classic petrol nose. Honey on the palate. Much more powerful than the Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Smooth, good acid and long finish. But a bit one dimensional and went flat after about 20 minutes in the glass.

Last of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, as last noted in 18, super and from top vintage, quite rich, not particularly botrytized but lovely nervosity. VF (18.5).

5th of 6, pnp but drunk over several nights, perfect cork and level, back on top form, now mature in look and complex flavour profile, admirable purity and freshness, hint of well judged spice, v long and even more persistent, should age well. VF (18.5).

4th of 6, pnp but drunk over several nights, apparently perfect cork and level - normally rated very fine, but this bottle corked, though the corkiness was largely overwhelmed by the richness and quality of the wine!

Distinctly richer, fuller and sweeter than years ago but somehow one dimensional and not very interesting. Maybe I was having a bad day, not the wine. We used it a dessert wine, which it was sweet enough to handle.

Darker toned, richer and more obviously Riesling than the Donnhof. Creamy vanilla to go with the Riesling notes. Very attractive and an excellent partner for the cheese course (especially the blue cheese).

Consistent and full of Riesling flat and botrytis. I think I prefer the Urzinger Wurzgaten to the Wehlenner Sonnehur, but both are very fine.

This is drinking remarkably well. Fruit of tangerine, subtle honey and perhaps a gentle undertone of kiwi. Dessert in a glass.
