The wine opened up during a one hour decant, but the fruit faded during the 1.5 hour dinner. The palate initially showed some nice dark red fruits, a touch of green pepper, and nicely integrated tannins, but with more acidity than necessary to balance. We had the 2008 vintage of this wine about 4 months ago and it showed much better than this bottle.

From the first wiff I was taken by this extremely young in age yet mature, unctuous and musclely Howell mtn Soon-to-be Cult classic. It has all of what this AVA and vintage promises- grace and balance. this baby has violets that leap out of the glass with creme de cassis and blueberry notes. The palate displays a cornicopia of accents: dark currant, toffee, leather, creme de cassis, roasted hazel nuts, dark cheerries, Blueberries. AWESOME!!! Be patient or decant for a day. Howell Mountain Tasting. Lovely nose of dark fruit, chalk, and dust, more of the same on the palate, lovely inky taste, medium body, and nice inky medium/long finish, 270 cases made.

Poured at a Howell Mt tasting. Striking, complex nose of fresh and dried herbs, earth, and violets. Round blue and dark fruit on the palate, with soft tannins. Very integrated for such a young wine. Kept sticking my nose in this one. My WOTN.

Not as good as the 2007 or 2008 vintages but still a great bottle of wine - I think I got spoiled!

Silky, round tannins, dark fruit and cedar. Vanilla on the nose when first opened. Got better and better as it time to open up.
