Purchased upon release and cellared in pristine fashion, this medium-to-deep garnet Pinot was uncorked and serially tasted over three hours. Serving up an intense bouquet of black raspberries, morello cherries, earth-laced plums, mulling spices, smoke and cocoa, it is a full-bodied Pinot with fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (14.4%), soft oak, seamless sweet tannins and impressive mid-palate density. Lengthy and smooth on the back end, it is clearly in its wheelhouse. Give it an hour of air if possible and enjoy it over the next five years (which reflects a much longer lifespan than what I estimated when last tasting this wine in 2015). Drink now-2027.

a little dark cherry, cola and vanilla on nose. 1st sip was sort of sharp with acid and pepper, mid pallet a bit more core sappy fruit finishing with a tartness and very slight bitterness/heat. Not the best showing for Klopp. I'm closer to Stephen Tanzer's rating of 88. this was a tough vintage. *** day 2 update. Significant improvement, picked up weight, concentration and eartheiness. Bitter finish is gone.....encouraging. Updated score.

Deep ruby and with smoky black cherry, earth-laced plum, bramble fruits and a beautiful herbal element that adds to the nose and palate, this offering bypasses the negatives of the vintage and accents the positives (the latter being the fresh acidity and the bright fruit). Solid in the middle, seamlessly alcoholic (14.4%) and with amazing length on the back end, this is nothing short of quintessential Merry Edwards Pinot! While pleasant now, it is not even remotely where it will be. Drink 2017-2021.

Dark fruit, vanilla, cedar, tar, fig, very little tannin for a young wine. Fruit comes forward immediately. Have more cellared, can't. Wait. Visited Merry Edwards a year ago and thought Klopp ranch was the best single vineyard

Enjoyed at the Merry Edwards lunch at Wink in Austin. Deep, with blackberry, dark cherry, cocoa, and espresso tones. Nice clove and sweet spice balance. Paired well with the stuffed quail offering.

Very nice. Mushroom and red fruit on the nose. Mouth of rich Russian River fruit, some brambles. 10 second finish.

Soft and elegant. Probably a bit old, but opened up nicely after about 30 mins. Dark cherry with some musty earthy tones.

Similar to my 2017 note but without the bitterness. Given the challenging vintage this is developing nicely.

Surprising dark and tannic for Klopp Ranch. Dark moist earth flavors without the dark cherry and elegance this vineyard can produce

Medium red. Rich cherry and raspberry, and a hint of plum and a bit of flower. Solid vanilla with some hints of chocolate

Clear, medium dark red, more blackberry than cherry, some real chewiness. More substantial than expected, which is a good thing.
