Appearance: ruby, light but with an intensity, uniform Nose: Plum, raspberry, blackberry; notes of souls bois, cherry, spice Palate: Somewhat uni-dimensional but with a substance and penetrating depth, good length, and structure and elegance, regal; seemingly excellent material but relatively unformed After a Half Hour: Nose is more integrated and enticing; palate is more chiseled with a descending tightening development; velvety and full With food: Manifesting rather different experiences with each taste A mysterious elusiveness but quite engaging

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru Restaurant - Chicago IL): Small glass, brief note. Very 1997, ultra ripe but with good concentration. I'd want more acidity, because today I'd consider this a wine to enjoy sooner vs later, which is unfortunate for La Romanee at under 20 yo.

While not an exceptional wine, this is much better than some of the pros would tell us. Red fruit, light earth, old leather, wasabi spice, cocoa, and light vanilla on the nose. Reasonable balance of fruit and spice on the palate but the backpalate and finish fail with a distracting harshness and acidity.

tasted blind, guessed 2012 NSG Vaucrains... oops
cured meat, dried berries, cedar, turnips,
structured and earthy on the palate, tannins not resolves, quite tart and cutting, lots of savory stuff, smoked beef note on the finish

A Vosne-Romanée Night: Some complexity on the nose. Smooth and fresh wine, sweet and sour. Fruit is a bit ‘dead’. Lacks complexity in the mouth.

This has consistently drunk much better than Bhound rated. I wish I had more of it.
