2010 Wrath Syrah Doctor's

Community Tasting Notes

Community Tasting Notes (4) Avg Score: 90.3 points

  • Great showing... Rich and fleshy with still quite sweet integrated black and red fruit compote. Tannins too are integrated but with a lingering enjoyable stemmyness. Background acid suggests the wine is at or close to its peak.

  • Lovely, rich and full-bodied Syrah. The nose expresses classical white pepper, Asian spice box, rich dark fruit, lovely dark chocolate and a whiff of dried flowers. The spiciness is quite intriguing and adds that little extra... The palate adds to the overall experience in a nice way with balance between expressive velvety tannins and the acidity. The length on the finish lasts some 45 seconds. There is no doubt this effort will continue to develop but it drank very well tonight too.

  • On day one, this dark and brooding Syrah has a bouquet of smoked meat, violets and blackberries. Flavors of blackberry, tobacco, pepper and violet dominate. There is a bit of tartness on the back end. Medium finish. The tannins are pronounced, but the wine balances them with a touch of acidity. Decent, but it feels like this needs some more bottle age to better integrate. I will try again on day two... Better on day two and tasting rounder and more integrated by day three. This needs another couple years to come together. Day 3 score: 91 pts.

  • Very meaty and smoky on the nose with some reduced aromas blowing off shortly after opening. Lavendar, date and damson show as the primary fruit aromas while the palette yields plenty of acid and light tannins. The finish is medium length and gets a bit raiseny and smoky on the back end. This is from one of the cooler sites in SLH, but it lacks the structure to age much farther and gain interest in my opinion.
