Mainly dark red fruit: cranberries, blackberries and black cherries. A mouth full of rich soil, more round and approachable compared to the one I tasted a year ago.

Cool red fruit on the nose, smoky, on the palate black cherries, cranberries, spices, very pure, like it a lot, you can open it, but some more years of additional cellaring will pay off.

Mini Henri Gouges NSG Les St Georges vertical 2005, 2011 & 2014, served blind, some secondary nose, really in a nice spot, thought 2000, characteristics of a 20 yr burg, the most accessible of the St Georges

RIBBS @ La T (La Trompette, London): Dense cherry to deepest ruby. Initially a lovely bright cherry nose, developing to something just a little more savoury. Densely silky. New Gouges, but tightening and starting to clam up. Sinewy, dry but fine tannin frame takes over and starts to squeeze the fruit; consequently lacks expansiveness and length on the finish. Lots of potential, but not singing on the day, for me at least. ***1/2 for now, but probably **(**)

After an hour, opened up a bit and become more enjoyable but still young.
Slightly oaked nose, dark red fruit, a little flower as it opens.
earthy, tight body but softened up as wine opened up. a bit of minerality and nice acid creates good structure.
Tannins that are mouth coating but fele unresolved; quite great length but not totally harmonius - this needs time. Like 5 years. But enjoyable now and will only get better.

2011 Les Saint Georges tasting: On the night, the Gouges (served blind) underperformed its reputation. An inexpressive nose showing some earth, spices, underbrush and 'burnt rubber' (reduction). In the mouth, grippy, earthy and dense, with decent volume. Sour cherry, iron and a little underbrush. 'A little drying on the finish' said Mike. Thierry described the wine as 'reductive and unidimensional'. I had the cuvée three years ago, when I found much more to like. Perhaps it's presently in the (non-drinking) tunnel? Me: Bronze. Group: No award 1 Bronze 7 Silver 3 Gold 0 = (13 score, rank 9=/12)

Deep, dark colour. Excellent bouquet, classic NSG, of blackberries, dark cherries, a suggestion of crème de cassis, black spices and iron, with a hint of dark florals. On the palate, also dark and a bit brooding, quite primary and tannic, but they're cultured, suave tannins. The wine has serious structure, a great acid profile and is beautifully balanced. Lovely texture and mouthfeel, flavours, again classic, top quality NSG, dark berries, tar, damp dark soil and iron. All class. The wine was relatively approachable but would of course benefit from 5+ years cellar time. Thanks Mark.

Decanted an hour. Dark red. Primary but expressive nose of dark fruits and flowers. Cherry and tar on a full and well balanced palate. Finish is long and starts sweet before the tannins kick in. Beautifully balanced, shows its NSG origins. An excellent 2011 that should age gracefully.

***From barrel: Clay, floral, mixed berries; straight, precise, almost sweet; dense, concentrated on the palate but still with a certain austerity, good minerality, and still expressive this early on. One of the highlights of the vintage. 92-93

Dark red fruit, cherries but also strawberries, lot of soil and saline elements. Not the best vintage, but the terroir demonstrates its class.

Eye: Ruby red
Nose: Clove, blood orange, leather and oak.
Palate: Black fruits, tannins still firm with medium acidity and medium finish.
Overall this wine needs some time still perhaps 2-3years. However it was a bit thin mid palate and not sure anything will fix that. Enjoy.

Still a bit of oak aromatically, but especially on palate. Veers darker fruit, towards cassis. Enjoyable.
