Slightly beyond peak as the color was brownish and the aroma slightly more pungent than anticipated. That said, it was incredibly soft on the palate with just enough smokiness and tannins to let you know that you were drinking a barolo.

A disappointment. Even given that 95 is not up to the level of subsequent vintages, I expected more from a Cru Barolo from this vineyard from this producer. Color was deeper ruby than I expected, close to purple. Nose was muted. Not giving away much, even though it was decanted for an hour and then pored back into the bottle to take to a neighbor's for dinner. Taste was, well, lacking. Not a lot there. I didn't have the sense it was corked or cooked, but it was just, MIA. Odd.

NYC Group does Piedmont (NYC): Smoky, rich cherry fruit. Somewhat tannic. Very good food wine.
