Expressive nose of earthy tones, hoisin, flowers and sweet spices, excellent. The palate is light and elegant as often the Hudelot house style is, there are more powerful Richebourg than this but the package here works. Good balance, long finish. What a wonderful aged Burg to go with food.

Considerably past its prime. Pretty damn fine on the nose; not so much on the palate. Former = fantastic earth/game. Latter = tart/stewed badness, generally. A couple of high notes here and there, but suckalicious on the overall.

I know this wine well but sadly, it appears it is on the way down as the last few bottles have seemed tired. Still, very interesting and mature Richebourg.

Second time trying this wine (both Adrian's bottles). This started out with a very smoky/peaty nose that softened with some air. More fruit driven bottle than the previous time but nice spice notes within. Nicely balanced and would agree that these are in the drink up category.

Rieslings, Rhones, Richebourg, and more at The Bristol (The Bristol, Chicago): I enjoyed this a lot, but didn't love it and found myself gravitating towards the Rhones on the tables more than this - perhaps a good sign for my wallet. Still, this is very pretty with lots of ripe red fruited flavours at the core, augmented by floral, spicy, and savoury earthy elements that slowly emerge on the nose and palate with more air. It's a powerful wine, fuller bodied than I expected, but still very well balanced with bright acids and fine grained tannins giving it plenty of structure. More impressive than charming, but I'm glad for the chance to finally try a Richebourg - thanks Adrian!

Salil does Chicago; 4/16/2015-4/19/2015 (Chicago, IL): Initially, this was a bit more muted on the nose than I'd expect. This bottle showed a lot more ripe (and slightly overripe) fruit than the last one I had. Where's the spice? Turns out it needed some air to come out and play. At the end of the day, this was still a much more fruit-driven bottle than my previous one. This did start fading after an hour or two, which confirms my assessment that these should be drank sooner rather than later.

Slight bricking at the rim. Great aromatics here with red flowers, perfume, spice, leather and earth all swirling around. Lovely texture on the palate. Shows the allure of Burgundy when its on.

Wines Tasted at HDH Auction (Tru - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Classic Vosne aromatic start with mature red fruit, subtle baking spice, hints of leather and dried rose petals, Good flavors, but slightly less interesting, emphasizing mature fruit and earthy element with moderate spice and length.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): Showing a bit better than my previous bottle. The nose was very powerful and aromatic. Good stems, earth, mushroom, rust, red fruit, and all good things Burgundy. The palate is a slight bit astringent, with lovely stem character. Rusty but very powerful. Lots of acidity that holds the ripeness of 1997 back.

No decant. colour mid red with some brown. Very powerful nose lots of deep rich fruit. Initially very impressive but as time went on started to lose its harmony and appeared chaptalised. Same on palate. Very impressive early on but after an hour started to fall apart.

Initially, this was quite muted, but a few minutes in the glass has brought out all the aromas. This is true to its '97 mould, with a prominent mulch characteristic, but standing right beside that is the incredibly rich spice notes you get from a nice Vosne. There are still vestiges of bright red fruit as well, but these seem to be fading. The palate's centrepiece is a display of fresh and crisp red fruit, highlighted by the expected acidity -- think red currants. The barnyard and manure from the nose also persist on the palate. This still has some grip, though it may be coming to its end very soon. The tannins are fine and fully resolved. I suspect this is in a slow and graceful decline, so enjoy now rather than later.

Even better than my last bottle. I am such a fan of this wine. Absolutely superb spice, mushroom, rust, red fruit and iodine on the nose. Tart red fruit on the palate. This one didn't need any time at all is was ready to go immediately. I love the depth and complexity. Outstanding grip on the long lingering finish. For the first time I saved a glass until day to, it held up quite well. This wine will not improve so well stored bottles should be wonderful today and in the near term. I have several left and plan to drink them over the next 2yrs or sooner.

Much better than the last bottle--from a different case. Great spice, mushroom, rust, red fruit and iodine on the nose. Initially this was a little compact but opened up nicely into broad red fruit/iron infused complex flavors. Long lingering finish.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): Dirty (in a good way) Burgundian aromas. Hints of iron, mushrooms, and mulch, in a very rustic nose that's nonetheless identifiable as Vosne. On the palate, this has surprisingly bright acidity to the point it dominates almost everything else about the wine. Vanishingly thin tannins, this unfortunately seems to be just about to begin drying out as evidenced by a hint of a raisin flavour on the finish; yet there are still lovely secondary characteristics dominating here, especially with those same rustic mushroom and rust flavours on the palate.

Very similar to the bottle I had one year ago. This was extremely tart with loads of iron and spice. After 4 hours it was still quite tart, but took on more spice and cinnamon along with a creaminess. These last two bottles were from a different case so I am going to see what a bottle from another case tastes like as I have loved this wine and had it many times.

What a cool wine! Ive had this about 5 times and it does not disappoint. Great iron and black fruit on the nose and palate. Plenty of depth and a gritty texture. Lingering finish. Has a bit of the Leroy raciness. Holds up for hours.
