Very rustic on opening with lots of barnyard and virtually no fruit. Big tannins. Eventually the fruit emerges after an hour. Lovely concentrated cherry framed by all the tannins and barnyard.

2011 Vincent Girardin (Vin, Vino, Wine, Palo Alto, Ca): Nice nose with good red fruit, mineral, slate, moderate intensity, have to search a bit, slight white pepper spice; palate is youthful, great acid, red fruit, acid increases in midpalate; finish is short-medium length. A great entry level wine with great freshness, great acid, but lacking a bit of density and interest with the fruit. 89
