Monthly Tasting Group: Bordeaux and Cabs 2009 and Older (Chez Dalluge, MN): This popped up late in the night, a nicely aged wine that still has something to give. Just a taste and it didn't leave much of an impression which may be unfair. Had this last 6 years ago, and my impression was that it's hanging in there.

Consumed 2 bottles this week. Now 26 years old, it was no surprise that this once fine Napa Cab was past its prime, but it still had really nice cassis fruit, and hearty cedar & cigar / spice box aromas, so it is in a phase of graceful degradation. Ten years ago, this true Bordeaux-blend (the five grape varieties) greatly impressed me and I will buy their recent vintages without hesitation. The Andrus family should be proud of this strong effort.

Same bottle as Rock and Roller, and I agree with his note. This was nice for what it is, but was totally outclassed by the other wines opened that night.

A Decadent Night of 1990's Napa Cabs and Bordeaux (Chez Dalluge, MN): Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank 1 glass over 4 hours plus. Lots of vanillin with plenty of dense black fruits, and some cedarwood. The palate is pretty chewy, full bodied, black fruits, not well defined, vanilla, cedar, sour fruit, firm slightly grippy tannins. Feels really young despite its 20+ years. I don't think this will get better, drink now.

Drank my last bottle (6 purchased 12 years ago in 1998). A bit worried as the previous bottle we drank about 2 years ago seemed past its prime. This was delicious. Still some fruit; and nice and deep taste. Served with leg of lamb for Easter dinner with the family. Decanted for about an hour and it still improved in the glass.

No notes taken. Served with an odd duo of food -- Clam Chowder and wedge salad, both from Keller's new book. First bottle of the '94 that I've tasted, and I was quite impressed. Nose gives dark fruit with oak/vanilla that is well integrated and complimentary. The taste was smooth and flavorful. This wine proved to be the unanimous favorite of the night.

Decanted. This wine still had a dark color with no signs of bricking. Plenty of primary fruit still going strong. More mature flavors such as spiced fruit and black pepper give depth. This was a beautiful and elegant wine yet had power. Plenty of life left if you feel like waiting.

Opened with 94 Opus, Mondavi Reserve, Pahlmeyer (corked)....Andrus stole the show...both Opus and Mondavi had noticable alcohol and a bit over rip (although Opus got significantly better with air)...Andrus had old world acidity, complexity and solid fruit...enjoyable

Subtle fresh black cherry and currant aromas. Elegant ripe black cherry on palate with cocoa, also still fresh with trace hints of evolving development. Excellent long finish. Has a long life going forward.

Hitting the end. Dried cherry and slight earth finish quickly.
