  • Black tea, dried cherries notes. Palate a little tired. Slightly out of balance - roaring acidity, without the fruit or structure to pair it back.

  • Pretty good. Opened up in the decanter - give it an hour or so at the minute. Not a huge rush but probably not getting a lot better.

  • Slightly less developed aromas than previous few bottles. More of the red berry fruit. Black tea. Still enough oomph on the palate to make it a lovely wine. Perhaps a tad short.

  • Earthy notes, tea, vegetal. Still holding up some very delicate red fruit aromas. Palate lacks any real depth of fruit, but there's sufficient in the mix to make it a very pleasant drop. Silky acidity, not a great deal of tannin, and perhaps comes up short on the finish. No longer seems to need decanting, other than to get shot of the shed load of sediment that has collected.

  • Brickish colour, especially at the rim. Aged aromas, meaty and vegetal. But still some red fruit in there, perhaps smelling a little more baked/stewed than fresh. Palate is actually quite smooth and silky after 2+ hours of decanting. Still some chew to the tannin and the alcohol has become more noticeable, especially on the finish. But holding up ok still. Might go a couple of years yet.

  • Strong aromas of black tea. Chunky tannic structure. Fruit present, but not that forward. Spice, oak. Not a great vintage in Barolo, and I think it's beginning to show. Drink up soon.

  • Red berry fruit aromas with some spice, earth and just a faint whiff of tar. Palate still has a good dollop of red cherry vanilla fruit. Definitely one that needs decanting to really open it up.

  • Nose of raspberry leaf tea. Fruit is quite sweet on the bouquet. Some spirity notes - evidence of 14% ABV. Palate fairly fruity, plenty of spice and a good deal of warmth.

  • Seems to be some bottle variation, since this was not as good as the last. But still pleasant. Nose of cherries and tea. Palate had a strawberry touch to it. Tannin still a little tough and chewy. Not as developed as the last bottle I tried. Still not up to its price level either.

  • Fairly light in colour, looking very tawny. Textbook Barolo nose of cherries, tealeaf and just a faint whiff of tar. Some menthol and chocolate notes too, and fairly sweet smelling. Not tremendous depth of fruit on the palate, but certainly enough to enjoy. Tannins a touch chewy and good level of acidity. Has the potential to go another 3 or 4 years perhaps. Reckon my last bottle was an outlier, because this one was back to how it should be.

  • Fruit slightly faded, but just about still there. Some notes of tea leaf. Palate is quite supple, but lacks a little depth. Nowhere near as good as the bottle I tasted 3 months back.

  • Sweet perfumed aromas of strawberries and cream. Some notes of rosemary and a touch of tea leaf too, all in all making up a complex nose which developed well with more time in the glass (despite 1 hour of decanting previously). Pronounced berry fruit palate, still very chewy on the tannin, but bags of depth on the mid palate and through the finish. Next one will be decanted at least 2 hours ahead.

  • Still quite a full colour, no obvious dilution. Cherry-led nose, slightly tarry. Full on the attack, fruit acidity and tannin all present, tannins slightly furry, fruit maybe not as concneytrated as one would hope for in a better year. OK though = this may last a while yet. Needs food at the moment and quite decent, but lacks the class of the declassified grapes in this. **1/2 for now, possibly *** in a year or two.
