  • It is rare that I can let my Scherrer’s age, but this was available at the winery when we went to last weekend’s open house, and I was happy to pick up a bottle. The nose is earthy and herbaceous with sweet cherry notes. There is an attack of cherries and cranberries with a hit of black pepper on the palate. Fully mature and a pleasure to drink.

  • Pinot Noir Mini-Tasting; 1/19/2019-1/26/2019: 30 minute slo-ox. No sediment. Much better than the last bottle in Aug. There were slight aromas of cola and earth. A medium bodied wine with plenty of dark red and red fruits, pepper, spice, cola, and some slightly drying tannins, with balancing acidity. Would recommend drinking up.

  • A bit restrained upon opening, so we poured a glass, then slo-oxed the wine for about 30 minutes. The palate never lived up to the attractive red fruit nose. The fruit was primarily tart red cherry, with elements of spice, earth and smoke, but the acidity just overpowered all else. Not our usual experience with Fred's version of Platt Vineyard, so it's either bottle variation, or a well respected vintage beginning to show its age.
