  • Well past it’s prime at this point. Limited fruit and disjointed acidity. Pop it if you have it (or if you find it in the depths of your parents cellar like me) and likely pour it out.

  • Deep garnet in color. Oak, some vanilla and blackberries on the nose. The palate is light on the acid with fig, oak and more berries flavor. Big at nearly 15%, we are split down the middle on this wine - like it at times and others, meh.

  • Lots of oak to cover up the unimpressiveness of the fruit. Not an enjoyable wine. Did not care to finish it. Very one-dimensional.

  • A robust but decent red wine that uses mostly vanilla smoky oak for flavor. Slight rs in the background. Not particularly varietal but with the oak level who would know, anyway what fruit that is there is very ripe with no green notes !4.9% alc. Modest but adequate acid and some hard tannins from the oak. Very pricy for what you are getting and there are more elegant wines at this price point.

  • Mettler Family Vineyards 2010 Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP: $24): The Mettler family, across six generations, have grown grapes in Lodi since 1899, which is impressive to say the least. Their estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with 13% Petite Sirah and 1% Petite Verdot. In the glass, the wine displays a deep garnet-purple color with aromas of black cherries, blackberry, and mulberry intertwined with spice box, cedar shavings, and underlying floral tones. The aromas carry over to the palate with a fairly rich, round mouth-feel, ripe tannins, and balanced acidity, finishing with a savory mix of [baking] spices and dried herbs. Overall, a nice wine that won’t break the piggy bank that’s sure to complement spring and summertime backyard barbecues – think grilled burgers, sausage, chops, chicken, etc. Region: Lodi, California. (Other info: ABV 14.9%, 22 months in French oak, cork enclosure.)
