  • The last of these babies to go. Somewhat subdued but multilayered fruit with tinges of olive, dark leather and roasted plums. I know, who would have thunk it?!?

  • Didn't have too much of the funk I expected...brougt to a blind tasting and I was hoping to freak confuse the other participants. Very nice, though, but typical and not too outstanding or memorable, which I expect from this producer.

  • Nose of pickled red fruits and slight hints of earth. On the palate, wow; this is very much alive! Acids are still kicking, and tannins are fully integrated. Flavors of sour cherries, cranberries, roasted nuts, herbal notes, and damp soil. Thanksgiving in a glass. Very pretty wine, quite different than some of the more bruising (and I mean that in a good way) recent vintages.

  • Had nice structure but woody and nutty flavors. Wasn't what I had in mind. Wasn't off but just didn't tast right.

  • 30 minutes decant time...13.5% (can't remember when I had a Syrah with that alc. last)...cloudy, opaque...sweet fruit on the nose, white pepper, subtle smoke and a load of wet earth...outstanding palate - if you like French-styled wines - high acid, good texture, sour fruit, not much structure...long finish, but it hasn't developed past that sour fruit...did this get ripe enough or is there a flaw here? I want to like this wine so badly, but no...

Then I went on to say something to the effect of I wouldn't buy anymore Cayuse...

What a difference a day makes...this wine late last night, after 4+ hours and then again this afternoon is completely different. This wine is tremendous! The nose is much more about fruit today, ripe and sweet fruit, yet still showing that smoky note as well...on the palate this wine has become rich, smoky, still balanced but showing a licorice thing and a friggin delicious finish. I don't know what to say or what happened here - but thankfully I didn't post the notes yesterday without this update. This has turned into a wine I wish I had more of ----- does this mean the wine needs more time? Or is this frog to prince turn something only decanting will help? Took it long enough! Originally scored 85 --- now mid nineties material.

  • Deep purplish/blackish ruby, reddish rims, aromas of black fruit, pepper, herbs, leather, plum, citrus, tar, cookie spices, fresh ground coffee, toast, b4, a2, t1+, thick, velvety, nice complex palate turns a touch flabby, just enough structure, black cherry, gains structure w/air, gorgeous fruit, angular acids emerge a bit, d2, still nice, thick solid fruit, some acidity cutting through, slightly angular (6+)

  • I hate to support the existing experience with this wine. No structure was detected leading to a blah critque. I am disappointed in this bottle, but glad I had only one!b

  • A bit more reserved on the nose, but real nice earthy, funky syrah, opened up a bit w/air
