Very impressed with the lip smacking aroma and flavor of this Argentinian Malbec, especially given the price point. Violets and sweet mulberries on the nose. Fruit forward palate, smooth and luxurious mouthfeel, slight heat from the alcohol but not overpowering. Extremely satisfying, goes down well with steak.

Kaiken 2011 Ultra Malbec (SRP $24): This deep colored, tasty Malbec offers inviting blackberry, ripe plum, and floral perfume aromas with underlying notes of brown baking spice. The aromas lead to a [fairly] full-bodied, fruit-forward (and focused) palate with soft round tannins, good depth, understated acidity, and a pleasant, medium-length finish. Overall, this is a nice, reasonably priced bottle to have on hand for spring and summertime get-togethers and backyard barbecues. Grilled meats or portobello mushrooms would pair nicely. Region: Mendoza, Argentina. (Other info: ABV 14.8%, 80% aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon added, cork enclosure).
Ripe dark fruits, good acidity. Slight minty oak. Hint of chocolate. 87-88 pts. It seems they dialed down the oak compared to previous 2 vintages which is a good thing.

Great Malbec. Very deep ruby color, smooth bouquet. Cherry and apricot hints. Well rounded wine, with a long smooth finish. Excellent to pair with light meats or hearty fish.

Decent but not much of a step up from the entry Kaiken, tasty but quite simple, good BBQ wine .

Особого впечатления не произвел. Весьма выражен алкоголь, так что возможно через год другой вино будет поинтереснее.

Just a bit better than the regular Kaiken Malbec from the same vintage.

I've had this wine on a number of occasions. Sadly, tonight it just wasn't as good as it normally is. A bit disappointing.

An extraordinary example of a South American Malbec. Smoother and more balanced than the previous vintage. Make sure to decant first.
