40% Cariñena, 40% Syrah and 20% Garnacha from the Montsant - which, if you haven't seen, you should - rugged beauty. I believe this wine is just entering its peak - and will probably be at peak for a number of years. The producer's tasting notes are very hard to argue with: "Wood smoke, spice box, incense, lavender, black cherry and plum aromas are followed by a mouth-filling, round, dense wine with outstanding grip and length." The mouthfeel is luxurious probably in no small thanks to 14.5% alcohol. My guess is that with even further aging, this will merit a couple more points. Great qpr.

45 minute splash decant. Attractive nose, highlighted by dense black cherry fruit, with a touch of smoke and pencil lead. Not bad on the palate. That same red fruit profile is there, but it's a bit clipped and short. Some tartness as well. Overall, an ok weeknight pizza wine.

Right before you get to Priorat you get to... Can Blau. Sweet black licorice. The label is trying to represent the blue slate. There it is. Mostly Carignan, then Syrah and Grenache. The Carignan gives it a little less Parker, a lot more structure.

Very dense purple color, with a nose of blackberries and plum, it's a simple medium-bodied palate and a strong, hot finish. Mostly leaves you wanting more than is actually there, but held-up well against some spicy food.

I had no idea Can Blau could age so well.

Needs decant and you will be happy. Dark fruit and smooth finish.

Robust and full with negligible fruit and moderate complexity. Smooth, light finish. Let it breath.
