Excellent new world/down under chard, at its peak right now. Salt and oak on the nose. Salty almonds, canteloupe, pineapple and apple on the palate. Nicely balanced mix between oak and fruit.

Green-tinted gold. Screwcap matchstick, then toasted oak, then cabbage and greengage, then sulphur again. Lean on the palate, slightly bitter apricot fruit, grapeskin acidity, toasted oak. Shortish finish. This would have worked with proper acidity but grapeskin alone cannot support such a lean style. The experience is one of anemic Chablis fruit with hot climate acidity: not terribly convincing.

{screwcap, 13.5%} Modern cool-climate chardonnay – grapefruits and figs – seasoned with French oak. Dry, almost medium-bodied, refreshing, with medium, natural tasting acid. Decent chardonnay for the shorter term.
