Upon opening notes of cooked meat perminate up from the glass which showed some notes of its age. Color is a rich purple with light red coming out to edge showing a slight bit of its age. Wine is very young in taste with notes of fresh blackberries. Wine should be good for another five years easily.

Left to open for two or three hours with just a small amount removed (audouze method). Fading on initial smell or taste but held up very nicely to hamburgers and I am looking forward to having younger Petite Syrah and Petite Sirah with burgers again soon .

Deep burgundy and purple color that is showing the signs of its age at the edge. Spice and game is forward on the nose. Body is incredible and this wine sings on the pallet. Finish is long and a youthful fruit jumps out of this old wine. Incredibly easy and enjoyable drinking wine. No surprise, Turley hits another home-run. This ‘98 is drinking so well right now. That said, it feels that the window on this wine (at least this bottle) is coming to an end. So drink up!

sweet and dark blackberry nose with plenty of bottle age and rich smokey oak notes. Excellent animal notes. Still tight. In the mouth, monolithic but vibrant with excellent acidity and fulsome tannic structure. Very long. The oak handling is subsumed into the dense and direct blackberry fruit and adds deep notes. Certainly outstanding and may develop in the next decade and possibly open up With air, the wine's fruit became sweeter and the tannic nature of the wine morphed into a satiny texture. At any rate, a wine of intense interest.

Our first Turley Petite Syrah (that's how he spells it). We had always been warned to sit on these for a while, lest the tannins and acidity melt the enamel off our teeth. Twelve years in the bottle have served this one well. Beautifully integrated, with resolved tannins and an elegant finish. Dried cherries, cranberry and ripe plums with some nice black pepper in the back. Throwing off quite a bit of sediment, so you might want to use a funnel w/a screen. Glad we waited.

Dinner with friends (My house): Dark black fruits, violet, and spicy flavors. Concentrated though quite balanced with bold, medium-grain tannins. Enjoyable wine.

Suprising floral nose with a sweetness. Some body and power. Soft waxy fruit, a bit roasted. Weight of extract clearly palpable. A bit of tar on the finish which was pretty short. Enjoyable, but really not much in this wine.

Deep opaque red. Spicy aroma of peppered red fruit - Wow. Huge big mouthful of black fruit, spice and coffee. Killer. 94 pts. 12/04 Full deep red/black. Forward arom ao f red fruit and minty play-doh with eucalyptus undertones. Nice medium balanced black fruit with cola and mint hints. I kind of like it though. 91-92 pts. 3/06

A bit monolithic and brick-like on the first day. On the second day, the nose opened up. A bit of spicy red fruit peeked through. Some spice, plums and pepper nuances enveloped the palate. Tannic, but not rough.
