  • 2014 Sydney Royal Wine Show - Exhibitor's Tasting & Trophy Wines Lunch (Homebush & Four Seasons Hotel): [trophy-best other red] {screwcap, 14%} Best Other Red basically means best single variety red which wasn’t shiraz, cabernet, pinot, merlot or a blend. This is ruby/purple in colour, with a youthful, sweet nose of mulberry, plum and cherry. On the palate the same flavours are present, but seasoned with smoky oak, and presenting a much drier, dusty texture than you’d have assumed from the nose. It’s solidly medium-bodied, with medium powdery tannins but fairly soft acidity; it has a red-berry pudding kind of quality to it. Seems to become more pointed and cherry-dry as it sits in the glass. Might benefit from a few years in the cellar, given the medium-long finish it possesses already.
