  • Color has a medium intensity of garnet fading to a ruby rim. Strong notes of strawberry, sweet cherry, blackberry. Secondary notes of pepper and cinnamon, baking spices, vanilla, sweet tobacco. Hint of pine needles. On the tongue, raspberry, blackberry, but heavy oak notes of vanilla, spices. Finishes with pepper and stone. Medium acidity, medium tannin, medium high body. Medium length finish.

  • Second wine tasted tonight by Optima Winery. This was tasted over a two day period. We first tasted this upon opening and noticed it had slightly harsh tannins and lots of spicy notes, so we gave it a decant for two hours. Wine was a deep garnet red. Lovely nose with terrific bouquet of floral notes and light boysenberry followed with thick secondary notes of dark baking spices like cinnamon. Palate started off a little jammy, nothing like some of the Zins out of Paso or Napa. Then opened up with some dark berries and thick spices. Moderate plus tannins (7/10) and a moderate body. Spicy notes up until the moderate plus finish. There was just a little bit of heat in the finish. This wine could use another year in the bottle and then enjoyed for the next five or so. Definite potential to improve with that little bit of time. Drink till 2024.
