  • Under screwcap. An impressive nose that is spicy, with sweet raspberries, cherries, floral aromas and oak. It appears the drinking window for this wine is considerably longer than I had originally thought, as there is good fruit, medium acidity and still enough fine tannins to suggest there is plenty of life left. If you have the patience, this is one of the finest pinots in Australia.

  • Floral and cherry nose, with spice and a hint of earthy/meaty characters. Complex and elegant. Still in prime drinking window.

  • Stunning wine. Beautifully integrated, elegant pinot. Screw cap has allowed this wine to cellar well for 11 years. Not many Australian pinots last more than 10 years. It's a pity Nat White is finally retiring.

  • A mature Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir from my favorite producer in the region. Mature garnet and slightly cloudy in the glass, this gives off a sweet aroma of strawberry, vanilla, spice and a hint of brambley mint. This is more savoury on the palate than the nose would suggest, but there is still plenty of ripe but restrained fruit. Tannins are smooth, well integrated and there is a nice balance displayed overall - alcohol was much better integrated than previous bottle. No need to wait for this.

  • Screw cap. Mature red brick in appearance - yet rather clear. A little surprising to see how developed this looked given the wines pedigree and age. Wild strawberry, cherry and a splash of cointreau added a touch of heat on the back palate. Good intensity and concentration with decent length, yet light-to-medium bodied. Tannins nicely resolved but some high notes sticking out across the palate. I had one of these a couple of years ago which definately showed better. Perhaps the wine coming off its plateau? Drink now.

  • When I first opened the bottle and tasted, I knew I was screwed for the blind because this came across too new worldish in terms of its bright strawberry fruits and cutesy sweetness (like that of the cartoon character - Strawberry Shortcake). On the palate, it was really a yummilicious strawberry juice with some hawflakes candy and bright cherry sundae topping. There was almost no earthy / soily / mushroom / ass notes to speak of. Nonetheless, a pleasurable wine albeit too simplistic. I can see this as a good pinot to intro to wine newbies to get them hooked on pinot.

  • Lunch at Andre (Telok Ayer Street, Singapore): Extremely highly rated Australian estate, but rather disappointing. An orangey garnet colour belied the wines youth, which showed clearly on the nose and palate. On the nose, it opened with a strong scent of preserved red dates, a touch of maraschino cherries, some herby bramble and a funky, muddy undertone. The palate had a touch of confection in its cherry flavours and a clear sweetish mineral and floral tone at the back of the mouth. It was rather light bodied, almost a touch watery in spite of a little wash of heat and alcohol in the mouth. There was good freshness, but I thought it just a little too bright at points. It finished with a slight hint of oak. Served blind with duck confit, everyone on the table guessed pinot. Lawrence thought it was a 2003 Burg, William called 2005 Adelaide Hills, while I guessed 2004 Mornington. None of us could place the maker though. I thought it would pair better with the duck, but it instead came out a little ferrous and metallic. All in all, it was not a bad wine, but I felt just lacking a little finesse in the way the acid and alcohol and the general struture of the wine stuck out a little. Rossano put it very nicely when he said that this wine stood on the border between an ordinary wine and an interesting one.
