  • Been 11yrs since my last crack at this one...very pretty red raspberry, orange rim color...dusty old cellar oak spice, plum liqueur, kirsch, dried flowers, licorice, leather, slight heat nose. Ripe fruit/vintage for sure...showing some Port-like intensity and elevated abv...yet there is plenty of blood orange and cherry skin sour acidity to lift and brighten...has wonderful dried berry fruits...tar and white pepper spice. Drinks polished and nicely integrated, then you get the Italian pucker and dryness on the finish. Florals of an Italian harvest...Super tasty with a Tuscan steak!

  • This is drinking in a perfect place right now......the ripe '03 fruit works well with the super dusty dry tannin and minerals...giving it a great feel in the mouth...liqueur berry fruit, plum, cherry...dusty dry barrel spice, tar, dried roses/oranges/tobacco. Beautiful florals, licorice...and mouth puckering dryness....drinks like a Barolo! Great stuff!

  • Drank at Joe's house for dinner. Showed very well and everyone was impressed. Loads of intense berry fruit and floral notes, with a spicy undertone. Very smooth and rich, with some tannins kicking in on the finish, which is medium length. With air, started to close down and alcohol started to show.

  • 'Steve Stines' 30th Birthday Dinner. Served with Tagliatelle con tartufi neri. Wonderful match. Complex nose of roses, blackcurrant's, cherry, some toast oak, quite expressive. Low-medium acidity, very ripe and plush tannins, medium body, tannins kick in on the finish, slightly warm, medium length. Very nice, revisit in 2-3 years.

  • More open after a bit of breathing; very delicious, like a Barolo 'light' with more fruit.

  • After decanting (this wine needs it!) this remains rather closed on the slightly dusty nose, but the palate is very expressive, with tasty and even sweet red and black fruit (cherries, prunes), tar, sirup and serious somewhat dusty tannins. Probably needs some bottle time to fully blossom, but has serious stuffing.
