  • 2012 Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards 2012 Block Series: Block 3 Cabernet Sauvignon. Double decanted approximately 2 hours before our group's "small batch" wine tasting event, then returned to ACVV's beautiful etched bottles for serving. 100% Cab Sauv from Block 3 on ACVV's estate, aged 22 months in 80% new French oak. Deep ruby color (almost purple) to the rim. A slightly more subtle bouquet of ripe raspberries and red cherries, cedar, earth, and cloves, with an attack of crème de cassis, pencil lead, leather, and spice box. Full bodied and mouthcoating, with a long, lingering finish of anise/licorice. Even our 2 hour decant wasn't quite enough to completely tame this cab's muscular, chalky tannins, as they are still integrating into this complex and powerful wine...which, admittedly, is only just starting to stretch its legs from time in the cellar. The current balance of fully ripened fruit (no green or herbaceous notes whatsoever), fleshy tannins, and fresh acidity clearly indicate this cab's enormous aging potential. A couple more years of cellar time would clearly reward those patient enough to wait, although this dense, complex beauty is already drinking extremely well. 93 pts...with 95+ likely for those that give it more cellar time.
