  • Really solid Burgundy. Delicate and floral, with a nose that explodes with black raspberry and cherry fruit. Surprisingly accessible on day 1, it seemed to shut down a bit on day 2, where mineral and forest floor notes emerged. The nuanced flavors suggest this will continue to develop additional complexity as it enters its secondary development. Revisit in 5+ years.

  • Medium depth of color but a dark hue. Expressive but soft nose of darker red berries - still quite purely fruited - though there is some mineral element. Medium weight only on the palate but with good intensity of flavor. The structural underpinnings of this wine are more rigorous than you might expect in a Beaune. Behind the pretty fruit is a certain tension, an influence of some constraint, precluding the wine from seeming generous. The delicious sweetness of the vintage shows up in the mid palate before the back end kicks in and shuts down any sense of softness. Appropriate length lacking perhaps a little thrust. Slightly drying tannins settle in the gums. A Beaune with some sinew. Enough fruit to give these more structural elements balance. The vineyard ’s characteristic restraint is evident and the wine is the better for being faithful to its origins. It is very good and an unqualified success for a 2012. I liked the second glass even more.. Can be drunk now but this is developing quite slowly. Bought on release
