Black Lion Wine Club - Northern Italy (The Black Lion): The wine is clear and deep ruby in colour. The nose is clean with medium intensity aromas of red fruits (cherry, plum, raspberry), herbal (menthol, thyme). The wine is youthful. The palate is dry with medium acidic, medium (+) ripe tannins, medium alcohol, medium body, medium intensity flavours of red cherry, red plum, raspberry, menthol, thyme and a medium-length finish. The wine is good quality. It shows fresh fruit characteristics typical of variety, with the acid and tannins balanced by the moderate concentration. It has a moderate finish. It lacks complexity and concentration. The wine should be drunk now (next 12-18 months) and is not suitable for further ageing. It id not showing any evident tertiary characteristics and lacks the concentration of primary fruit to support tertiary development.

Opaque except for a sliver at the meniscus. Scent of violet and tar. Blackberry and mineral flavor. Good acidity in the finish. Light and fruity but substance there also. Very good wine and especially at this price point. Went well tonight with a rustica (eggplant and Italian sausage) pizza and eggplant parmigiana.

Attractive red and blue fruit on the nose. Some leather and funk too, as expected for Piedmont. On the palate, unresolved tannins, high acid and much minerality. On the whole, it was not interesting nor enjoyable. Eaten with spaghetti bolognese.

Dense violet colour. I have not had this grape, Dolcetto, very many times. Very distinctive smell, slightly tart. On the palate, dry, notwithstanding the name of the grape. Slightly tannic, more acidic than I expected. On the palate, I get licorice and black cherry. Bitter finish. Rated 90 by Wine Advocate I think.

Plenty of fruit, lean body and healthy tannins. Nice summer wine, especially when chilled.

Subtle funk scent, followed by medium body tar and mineral flavor. Finishes with plentiful fine tannins. Serve it chilled in the summer.

Typical medium body dolcetto. Dark currant, violet, mineral notes. Nice balanced finish. Very "pretty" wine. Great dolcetto.
